I have a friend who was recently killed in a plane accident. Does anybody know of a place where I can find the information from him, so I can send something to his family. Switchboard.com is no help b/c I can't remember his paretn's names.

(This happened like a month ago. I just can't find the addy.)

I don't, but I'm truely sorry about your friend. Maybe call the airline?

I thought I'd do a little search and get some info to help you, but I learned something interesting.

The old Civil Aviation Authority has been moved into the FAA as something called the Civil Aviation Security. I don't know when that happened, I just know it has changed.

It turns out that the names of passengers who are victims of private plane crashes are released, but the addresses and phone numbers and any other private information about them is specifically barred from publication. Apparently, this is to protect the family from things like ID theft, as well as a bombardment by lawyers wanting to represent the family of the crash victim.

In other words, Spin, you will have to go through some unofficial method of finding contact information. Sorry.

Do you know where the accident happened and/or his hometown? Maybe there are newspaper accounts, or even the obituary, that might mention family names or give you some other leads.

Texan- I think we can both agree that buracracy blows.

Shoot... he lived less than a mile and a half away (I'm 200 miles away from that area) can't remember which house, can't remember his folks' names so I get red tape.

Yeeeee haw!

Thanks for all the condolences.
