Perhaps "plus size" is a term used in relationship to the rest of the world, not just America. Huge portions of the fashion industry resides in Europe where those ARE plus sizes. America is in the midst of an obesity epidemic that the rest of the world does not suffer from. More than 50% of Americans are overweight or obese, so you're right most women in America are that size, but America's population makes up less than a tenth of the world population.

I don't really believe you meant it to sound the way it did, but that sort of eggocentrism is a huge part of America's image problem to the rest of the world. Because America has an obesity epidemic the entire world has to change their views on size?
