I am glad that "we" - meaning President Biden, who I voted for - are standing up to the Chinese dictatorship. In recent years that dictatorship has been getting uppity.

I love Chinese people, Chinese culture, the Chinese nation, etc., but not the dictatorship. Democracy works well in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. I am sure it would work on the Chinese mainland.

In the long run I am more optimistic about the future of China than I am about the future of the United States. The East is not red. I do believe it is the location of the future.

Are we standing up to it?

It just seems to me that he was a lot tougher on them and from the Left there was hand-wringing and wailing.

But now? Being slightly less tough is the thing? China has not reached its potential for years and its self-defeating habits are now ingrained culture, so I find your prediction to be "laughable," for want of a better word.

Xi is in the midst of a power struggle within the CCP and the Chinese economy is on the verge of collapse. Between the internal power struggle and the financial crisis the very future of the CCP may be on the line. The uprising of the general population regarding the financial problems may well be a significantly bigger threat to the regime than the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.

The one thing that the people of the mainland are united in is the fact that they believe that Taiwan IS a part of China. An invasion of Taiwan would be popular with the people and would serve as a distraction from the financial crisis and virtually guarantee that Xi would retain power in the short term.

There are serious downsides if China (Xi) were to make such a move and while it would keep the current regime (CCP) in power a little longer it would most likely lead to it's demise in the long term. But the consequences of such a decision on Xi's part will be dire for ALL the rest of the world.

I, for one, would not go to war for Taiwan if I had any input to the decision at all.

I would however urge and finance a massive Japanese buildup.

Let natural enemies hold each other in check.
