Oh, sure. The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) has it's yearly war. Now, first off, one must understand what the SCA is about before one can appreciate a SCA war.

The SCA attempts to recreate the more pleasent, educational, and entertaining aspects of the Middle Ages. So, at a war, there's combat of various types, classes on cooking, dance, music, speech... just about any aspect of the middle ages one might one to actually experience. Of course one does away with the disease, the poverty and short life span. We're crazy, we're not stupid.

Pennsic is for the first two full weeks in August. Last year there were about 10,000 people roaming around in garb, checking out the vendors, participating in combat, and (of course) going to parties. Ah, for you see, one of the better aspects of the middle ages is the mead, wines and ales of the period. Find a fire, find the music, begin to dance...

There's ALOT to a War, and Pennsic is an old one, so there's a lot to do day and night.

DUH! Ok, so I missed that part.

Coopers Lake Camp Ground, Western PA (maybe an hour north of Pittsburg)

If anyone is truely interested, Pennsic War would show up on any search engine.

This is really wild and fun...especially if you've never gone.

I was a member years ago and played a feudal Japanese char. called Yesugei the Quick. I fought single sword.

Ah, but I get the distinct impression you're not going this year, eh?

Nope...I sold all my armour including my helm. I converted my katana into a battle axe and then someone swiped it. Oh well.

Selling the armour isn't so bad, it's yours to sell...but the theft REALLY sucks. Bummer that.

The armour wasn't hard to sell...it was just boiled leather. The greaves were easy to make also. It was difficult to sell the helm, articulated gloves and elbows...they were a bitch to make. The helm especially...it looked exactly like one of those feudal helms with the stepped collar and everything.

Funny thing was...every time I took a hit to the helm it rang like a bell. I learned to be faster than everyone else because getting hit in the head was so embarassing

lol, guess that's one way to learn to duck...

Not a fighter myself - if I was to get into it I'd go fencing, I'm a tall wiry fellow, and not inclined to lug about heavy armour.

Back then I had a muscular-swimmer's type of build...now I've got more of a bodybuilder's/powerlifter's build.

Just goes to show - there are all kinds at a Pennsic War.

I've had people try to drag me along the past few years, but I don't know that I could swing it...

I don't know Cat...I wouldn't mind seeing you in a tight bodice or leather.

lol... that's why I have a pic thread... *grin*

While one could dance around the fire to the drums, drinking wine, with a pic - it just isn't the same thing....

What's that old saying? One lusty wench on your arm is worth two in the bush? Hmmm...don't think I got that right. I might want to be with the two wenches in the bush.

For Cat :rose: X12
