Pending Stories

This is not a question about how long it takes a story to post. By now, I am aware of that. What I am wondering about is this:

A few days ago, I submitted a story. Yesterday, which was March 7, I checked the status, and it was listed as "pending" but included a posting date of March 9, two days in the future. I have seen this before, although never two days, and I know that at mightnight tonight, EST, which is 9PM, PST, the story will post.

Why is it that, after a story has been accepted, they don't just post it? I'm not really complaining, because I would rather it post on Friday than Wednesday, for New Story List purposes, but I just wonder what that is about.

I presume the same thing happens to everybody.

They may have a set number of stories that they don't want to exceed per day for the new story list.

spooky - same thing happened to me. I also have a story that was listed as pending but with an approval date for tomorrow... Has happened before, but not too often.

I've had that happen once, maybe twice. I kind of figured what Crim said. I don't know if you've noticed, but there's never more than 7 pages of stories listed in the new section. At least I've never seen more than that.

The stories aren't posted manually, they're posted by a script that only runs once a day a midnight (It used to be midnight PST rather than EST).

The two days delay is likely because of limiting factors like ot poting two chapters of an ongoing sstory on the same day, not letting the new story list get dominated by one author or category, and spreading the available stories out for a consistent number of stories each day.

Okay, the story posted at 9PM PST, just as I expected. I wonder how long it will take before the trolls find it. It's in the Novels and Novellas part, and they don't usually attract as many.

By the way, I now have another story listed as pending, with a posting date of 3/10/07.

Here is a link, if anybody's interested. I should warn you, though. The story that just posted is longer than most of my stories, and it might be even dirtier than most.

Same thing happened to me, except I got the March 9th date on about March 3!
