Okay, most of y'all know that my younger brother is in prison. He's got like a year and a half left, and he's really a good guy who got into some trouble because of drugs. He's clean now (thank goodness), but I just got a letter from him today, and I feel so bad!

I write him, my mother, my sister-in-law, my neice all write him, but in his letter today, he said he wished he could just get some mail from someone who isn't related to him.

Y'all are such good folks....I'm not asking for a relationship type thing, or anything like that, but I know it's hard for him, and the only bright spot he really has is receiving mail. I would be FOREVER indebted to any of you that could just maybe be a friend, and that's all.

Please?

I was an avid pen-pal as a teen -- I wrote to people all over the world. I had an older cousin who did time and I wrote to him for two years. Sure, sign me up! I'll even use nice stationary and write legibly and EVERYTHING!

Thank you so much!

PM on the way.

My first inclination is to help, but then I see myself and chuckle and think "I'd hate to do more harm than good." :D The calm, almost casual, reflective cynicism I have is not healthy for people who need to positively take their mind off their troubles.

Thanks, babe.....if you change your mind, pm me for the info, ok?

I just want to make it a little more bearable for him, that's all - he's my baby brother, you know?

I empathize with your ache, and wish him the growth that comes from learning the hard lessons and moving on (and knowing that personal growth is the project worth every bit of his focus).

Cloudy -how about some international post for him? I used to write to loads of pen pals in my teens, and I'm happy to write to your little brother. :)

My dear Kev, don't sell yourself short. I find it a wonderful tonic. You're a real delight.

(Yes, I know, I am atrociously bad at keeping up with PM's. But I still greatly enjoy yours.)

Hello, dearest horse. :D I am completely certain that the lad does not need any tonic that I can give.

(And when you unbury yourself enough to continue, let me know in your typical, wonderfully verbose style.) :)

Never cared for the drug laws, anyway. I think that a few letters or e-mails now and then to a brother of a friend wouldn't kill me. :D :rose:

I would love to help if you need it still Cloudy...
I used to be pen pals with a bunch of military guys in Iraq.... when they all came home I stopped... but wouldn't mind doing it again if your brother is in need.
