I saw this interesting bit of software - called the IEradicator.

http://www.litepc.com/ieradicator.html

Has anyone used that? I'd love to remove IE for good and open up some hard drive space (without damaging my operating system).

Or does anyone have a different solution?

Thank you thank you thank you!

Linux.

And I hear Mac OS is going to be available for PCs.

Probably. Apple switching over to Intel processors.

As far as removing IE goes, I recommend a sledgehammer. :D

I've never tried that, but I have an older Windows 98 PC, and I cringe any time I install or delete software. Win98 is notoriously picky. If you don't use IE, right click on the icon on your desktop and click Properties, and make sure that you delete all the files in your cache. If there are any there, that will free up some HD space.

You can also go to the control panel, click Add/Remove Programs, and I think there is a second tab at the top that will let you configure Windows features. In there, you can uncheck some things that might take up a lot of disk space, like sound files, the different desktop themes, etc.

I'm assuming you have Win98 in this post. WinXP would be different.
