Oh boy, I recently had my personal Computer-Waterloo.

Notice how I haven't been online the last weeks?

Here goes the story. Right at the end of the semester when I have to do a lot of computer research and also have to write and turn in three papers á 15 pages, I leave my room with my pc on. It's a very old Windows 98, 560Mhz, 20GB Harddrive computer, which was very slow and crappy. But you know, I'm not a tech-wiz and I certainly don't discriminate computers just because they have had their best days. I liked him and he liked me. The harddrive was full with music, data, texts, pics, etc.

Anyways, after half an hour I returned to my pc. I moved to the mouse to another browser tab, klicked...adnthen it frooze. So far, I didn't get suspicious, it does that all the time. So I hit the 'reset'-button like usual. Then it booted up very slowly which mad me frown. I hit the "Reset"-button again and the next time it booted up, it said "hard disk drive not found" or something like that. I started to get anxious. A couple of tries later the only thing it did after booting was beeping like a mobile phone on crack and giving me different information like "status: okay but failed to command" or "status: corrupted" or "status: critical, store data and replace".

Now I started to freak out. It dawned to me that my very old and fully-loaded harddrive might have died on me. Hope was rekindled when the next day it did boot up, and windows started. But it was very slow. Nevertheless I was able to burn one CD with the most important data before the system froze again...this time for good.

Now, everytime I start it up, the harddrive produces weird mechanical sounds.

GODDAMN IT. It's gone. All my data gone. And I am in desperate need to use a computer this month. I was so pissed last week. Now I have to write all my seminar-papers at the University, which is really quite annyoing and once in a while depend on my g/f's willingness to lend me her laptop.

Let's not forget that I will have to spend several hundred Euros to buy a new one (yeah, I know, I could replace the har drive but this machine is so damn old, that I will have to replace it now) and I don'T know shit on what to buy or how to set it up.

Oh boy, I fucking hate computers.

I admit, I was kinda naive. I never thought something like that would happen...hence no backups. But boy, it could have warned me at least.

Sorry, I had to vent but this is really moving me.

Anyways, I can't be on here very often in the near future. I don't know hether anyone cares but I just wanted to let people know.

Snoopy, missing old type-writers.

If you could have talked to us on a typewriter-- why didn't we think of that in the old typewriter days? But of course, there wasn't even an 'enter' button...

Treacherous things, hard drives. Sympathies, Snoop.

my hard drive died on me the other week, but my husband had just completelt reformatted her days before so I had a back up of nearly everything, thank goodness.

I'm sure someone round here will give you some help finding a new pooter :) Look into second hand, not as expensive but often nearly as good as new anyway :)

I see an opportunity for a nice new laptop (putting a sunny spin on this) :)

By the by, Snoop...you never did tell us. How did that phonetics exam go? Is all well and good on the language front? And if you're past that hurtle...what's next on the educational ajenda?

And we most certainly do miss ya! I hope you can get by now and then.

Thnx for the sympathies y'all. I'm actually starting to cool down a bit. I'll have my g/f's notebook for the next week, so I'll be able to log on for so long and I'll also be able to finish one of my three papers.

Actually I haven't decided on what to get, pc or notebook. I think it'l depnd on the money I got. I'll see. I'm too busy right now to get busy looking for a new puter. I'll try to fins some pc-wiz who'll go shopping with me.

Anywys, thnx guys.

Snoops, woof.
