Paying the Price (closed for girlintexas99)
Jim sat at his usual table enjoying a mid-morning coffee and just passing some time before heading home for some yard work. It promised to be not too hot today and his plans were to take full advantage of that. After knocking the work out, there would be the pool too clean. While he could afford the luxury of having it all hired out, he preferred to do it himself.
He had worked hard to get to this point and the early retirement allowed him to take pleasures most others never get to achieve. Being single, kids all gone out on their own, and debt free, allowed him to relax a bit from running a highly successful investment firm.
Finishing his coffee and dropping a generous tip to the table, he started to get up. His eyes noticed a couple of girls walking in and being seated across the room. He instantly recognized his granddaughter as one of them. He sat back down, wondering why she would be here doing the school day. She was only two weeks away from graduating and it was just a month ago he had attended her 18th birthday party.
Signaling for another coffee, he thought he would watch and see what might be happening. A senior "skip" day? Just odd that he had never seen her here before as her school was on the far side of town as was her home. She was the eldest of his daughter's three kids. Sue would go nuts if she found out her daughter was not in school.
