Patton Calms The Fears Of His Fags

Colorful and plain spoken mother fucker wasn't he?

I guess I'll never know if my father was still in England or had already left for N. Africa at this time.

Its consistent with Patton's style.

Of course.

However, as we all know, when Hollywood gets ahold of history, facts get lost.

Many of us only know of that speech because of the film.

I'd like to know the source of that version. As far as I can see, there is no attribution. It's a matter of pure curiosity. I am interested in the facts.

Also, what is the significance of the text that is highlighted?

The highlighted text is in the film. The other is consistent with it.

Patton made several off the cuff speeches to troops before D Day. All were similar but different. Patton couldn't read. A historian named Tony Brighton collected speech snippets from many 3rd army soldiers to reconstruct the speech as shown above.

Years ago I worked for a construction executive who couldn't read a word. I thought he hired me because of my smarts but it was to read all the contracts and such, and explain them to him. I guarded his secret. He knew I wouldn't betray him.
