Well I went and visited my parents yesterday. This s going to be the last time I see them until next winter unless I decide to head north during the summer.

We arrived there at 0800 and were greeted at the door with hugs and large cups of coffee. I had no sooner taken a sip of mine when my father asked me for some help putting the cover over his boat. We were doing this when he made the comment that he din't know exactly how he was going to anchor the boat during the storm season. I looked the boat over and thought about what I had seen in his shed and came up with a plan. It took us roughly half an hour to do the work but by the time we were done I was sure the boat wasn't going anywhere. (He's an Engineer for crying out loud. Why didn't he come up with this idea?) I also looked at how he had finished his flooring and got some ideas on how to finish mine.

Later in the day we went down to one of the local beaches up there. I was surprised when my mother accompanied us to the sand and then surprised when she walked along with us. She had some discomfort from her legs but nothing that slowed her down. (Remember less than six months ago she had a hard time walking more than one hundred feet.) Yesterday she walked roughly a mile in sand. When we got back to the car my father surprised me once again. He opened the back of the car and pulled out two small bags. Handing one to me he directed me to the bathrooms while telling me we would be doing some diving, the only diving we have managed to do together this season.

Well we hit the water and swam out to the reef roughly 30 yards offshore. We started hitting the bottom and poking around the rock reef, just looking and having fun. Then my father waved me to the very edge of the reef, a place that he later told me the rich and snooty liked to anchor their boats and party. This sounded like a fun place to drop to the bottom so we started heading down. It wasn't the best diving I've done I admit that. The waves were about five foot and the water depth was about fifteen feet. It was stirred up and visibility was roughly ten feet. The surface wasn't fun I can tell you this, we had to fight with the waves just to breath. A the bottom we had to hang on so we wouldn't be washed into the rocks.

On one of my drops I saw something glint in the sand. It wasn't far from where I was heading so I moved over to investigate. When I reached the bottom I found a chain being quickly buried by the sand. I grabbed it and eased it out of the sandy bottom. Slowly, oh so slowly I worked it out until I reached the end. Seeing the stone at the end I smiled to myself and shoved the whole thing into my bathing suit pocket. Obviously it had been dropped by one of the High and Mighty.

It was only when we returned t the beach half an hour later that I pulled the chain back out. My father looked at it and whistled. He proclaimed it a true diamond of roughly four carats. I was more than happy with the find.

When we got back to my parents place and cleaned up my mother handed me her latest Lab results to check over. They were better than I expected. I was happy with what I saw.

We finally left my parents place at 2330. The back of the car was loaded with two coolers filled with frozen foods from their freezers that they weren't going to be bringing north. We got home at roughly 0100 and took almost an hour to unload the coolers. (Man is our freezer full.)

I will of course miss my parents and will of course be somewhat jealous of them but what the hell. The get to live in the best of both worlds.
