From the Births announcements of our local paper:

To X and Y, a daughter:

Karmann-Porsche Carrera Mercedes Clio Princess (and then a hyphenated surname).

I can understand naming a child after your football heroes, or after people you admire, but cars' names?

The Renault Clio and Austin Princess are not in the same league as Porsche and Mercedes.

Can you imagine the girl's first day at school?

Imagine it? I was there. Three girls came to our school. Their names were Porshe, Mercedes and Delorean. This is no joke. If it had been a joke you would have been advised to tune your dial to the Emergency Bad Joke Avoidance Channel and . . .

At least Mercedes was originally a girl's name before they named a car after her.

I wanted to call the she-devil Mercedes (as in the Spanish version). And the Austin Princess was a classic! *grins*

If you go on to tell me that the parents are located in Henley-In-Arden (Warks), I'll know for a fact that my cousin is, in one form or another, involved.

The child's name is a dead giveaway.

Any one of those would be fine as a girl's name, but all together?

Parents doing that to a child make me wonder if it's time for the return of public flogging

And RS2000 wouldn't have worked: Arse for short...

And what about Stratos (or Strata?)...

That beats Virginia - "Virgin for short, but not for long..."

I went to school with a boy called Cecil Pitt who was obviously abbreviated and knew a guy at University called Shirley - but I understand that originally was a boys rather than a girls name.

My favourite name though is a student of my brother in law's in Chicago who was christened 'Narcissus Love'
