Parenting

When I was a kid, they sent me to a psychologist. Turned out that - like it sounds yours too - there just wasn't enough challenge.

FWIW, you could add extra challenge yourself. Off the cuff, ask for a detailed report on each day's classes, ask him to explain WHY, not merely what. I'm sure those are crap, but you know the little guy - I'm sure you can find things that fit. Make him sure that you are really interested, not just in what the teacher thinks, but in what he's thinking and doing. Show him you love him and want to know and help him to look for more than just what the teach expects. I know I'm bullshitting, but I do think he could end up knowing you confidently expect more than teacher does - and loving that he can meet the challenge.

"When they go wrong, just love them harder!"
"Your puppy wants to please you!" - and that goes in spades for kids.

Get him to talk - and make it obvious that you want to hear.

Good luck,

Personally, I think people are waaaay too quick to jump on the ADHD or ADD bandwagon these days.

Kids are a pain sometimes. You have to figure out what makes em tick and then use that to motivate them and it's not easy.

I moved a LOT as a kid. It really sucked.

The schools in rural areas often had a much less challenging course program. That could be part of it.

*hugs*

I'm sure you can work it out. My son had a daily chart that HE was responsible for getting the teacher to sign verifying he had done his work because my son was so good at getting out of his work. If he brought it home signed he had privileges, which were whatever he desired most that wouldn't interfere with what I wanted to do. If he didn't, he had none but everyday was a new day! Everyday he could make the choice to do and act as he was supposed to or to fuck it up. It was totally up to him. This worked pretty damn well.

Until one day the teacher called and said the child hadn't been turning in his work. I was like oh really? Well I have this calendars that says you signed off that he did. LOL! That was fun.

Why teachers often don't communicate until the last damn minute I don't know. That never works well. We can't fix a whole quarter at the END of it. *sighs*

Good luck to you. I'm sure you'll get it done right.
