It had to be said.

I should feel better now, but I don't. Update: barometric pressure has set a new record low.

Get in the Honda and COME TO TEXAS!

If you get here by Friday you'll be able to meet minsue and matriarch too. :D

*hugs* Sher. I heard she'd been upped to a 5 on the radio earlier -take care of yourself ok?

Best wishes. However RUN, do not walk to the exit! A category 5 is nothing to mess with.

I wish!

I wish the Honda could be trusted for a long drive.

I wish my bosses would panic, too, so they'd close the office and cancel the presentation we have scheduled for Tuesday.

I wish the weather guy would decide which part of Florida will be wiped out, instead of waiting for the weekend.

I wish you four a fabulous time, and just enough rain to dampen everything except your spirits.

I wish you'd get the hell out of Dodge- in your Honda.

I just want to join the chorus of AH's who are singing "Run," Sher. It's no time to fuck around. If you're not sure the Honda will make it, find an alternate means out of the city. Plane, bus, hippy VW van brigade - whatever it takes. Stay safe and try to stay in touch as the craziness progresses.

Sher, I do hope you will take a chance on the honda and get out. After seing what Katrina did miles inland, I don't think florida is wide enough to get to safety.

*HUGS* and Prayers.

I know. And this one is larger than Hurricane Andrew.

Unfortunately, no one will know where the exit is until a few hours before landfall. People who drive out of the predicted path often end up driving into the real path. H. Andrew is a perfect example. They ordered an evacuation of the Florida Keys, and then the storm veered north, missed the Keys, and headed for Miami. They told us to drive west on I-75. I was less than a mile from the entrance to I-75 when the weather guy on the radio announced that Andrew wasn't going to head north up the coast after all, but would cross the state, east to west...Until they can predict the path accurately, days in advance, the only way to avoid one of these is to leave the state as soon as there's the threat of a major storm. In other words, quit your job and win the lottery.

Been watching since it was first named and even though it remains unpredictable with any real accuracy, the projected path has remained fairly constant since the beginning.

They say this is due to steering winds from a high pressure system over land above the Gulf of Mexico which contains a general easterly flow of wind and will 'push' the hurricane across the lower half of Florida.

Just listened to authorities in Florida and Shereads is exactly right, by the time a more precise landfall is known, it is too late to travel the length of the state to get out of danger.

To hell with the job girl...head up into Alabama or over to Texas before the weekend.

Take care!

I wish you wouldn't be so stubborn.

I worry.

i would tell Sher, if i were the one trying to convince her to leave, to take a flight into Dallas or Austin...that i (if i were the one trying to convince her to leave) would be there to pick her up to join the fun and wait out the storm in a warm, safe environment.
yep, thats what i'd tell her ...if i were the one trying to convince her to leave, that is.

its all in the eye of the erm...
anyway, if you think your house is a natural disaster, that would count!

Look after yourself Sher, we don't want another casualty.

Winds currently 160 and rising, be sensible.

I've under the same sentiment as everyone else. Tell the boss that, while you really love working for him/her, you'd just as soon keep your body in one piece. Finish the powerpoint presentation for them, excuse yourself, and get up to Atlanta - or anywhere that's 100 miles from the sea. Depending on where in Fla you are, you'll be there in a day and not worrying about which direction to go with the other 300,000 people all at once.

Easy to say when it is not my job.

That's the excuse I'm using...
