Paranoia and the Catholic apology

I heard a BBC report on the radio this morning. Apparently the Roman Catholic Church will shortly be releasing a public apology to the world for its attrocities of the past. I think that they are referring to historical fuck ups which they made like "the Spanish inquisition" and their obvious discrimination of Jews - god, only now have they finally acknowleged that the hollocaust was a shocking violation of human rights - before this they kinda shrugged it off, well because it was only the Jews (who only until recently are finally being acknowledged as humans).

The point I am making is that a half-baked symphony of phony sympathy means little or nothing unless there is a change of heart as well. Yet still, they continue to be gross violators of human rights: they do, for example refuse to condone homosexuality, fuck they even frown upon masturbation.

These close-minded institutions are the very evil that I was referring to on an earlier thread. I wonder how many people have died at the hands of the Roman catholic Church's dogmatic stance. For that matter, I wonder how many people have died in the name of religion period. What a fucking evil thing it must be.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone - I have just heard the BBC report and I am still feeling a little shocked.

PS: To the great believers on the BB (and I know that there are some), this is not a dig at your faith. To understand what I mean you must understand that I have chosen to distinguish between God (who's divine existence is not in question) and the Catholic Church (which is a man made creation and doesn't always, I am sure, act as a bona fide agent of the divine).

Many horrible things have been done in the name of religion, nationalism, tribal superiority, and race supremacy.
It always helps to be able to blame the terrible things you are doing on a god or for a great cause.

I am just glad that they are moving in the direction they are with the present Pope.
When a country or a church/religion overcomes its inertia to admit wrong doings it is a big move in the right direction. True it is usually too little too late but it sure beats not being flexible enough to ever admit being wrong.

I guess I tend to feel that nations, religions, and people should be judged on what they are doing now rather than holding them responsible for what happened in a past over which they had no control. I don't hold the present Catholic Church accountable for the Inquisition unless they are covering up acts and atrocities committed back then (and they may well be doing just that). Same with Germany and Germans for the holocaust (the stolen money and goods may never be recovered). America isn't any better with their treatment of the native Americans and the breaking of basically every treaty ever signed while genocide was systematically carried out.

History is full of man's inhumanity to man. Thank goodness for the shining examples that highlight how we can raise our selves up and be better than the muck in which much of mankind wallows.

Sorry if I got a little off topic but as always things are very, very seldom black and white instead most is just shades of gray.

I have about the same point of view S_B. Any religion that forces people to become one of them by torture and death is one that makes me think of what the world is comming to, besides this is the most popular religion in the world. The Discovery Channel has done documentaries on some of the old Christian Sanctuaries and found grave yards, under the buildings in a serreis of tunnels, of nothing but new born children, that were killed over many years, that the priests and nuns were having but told everyone that they were CELIBATE. Apparently the Christian Priests and Nuns were lying, about being Celibate, so what else have these religious leaders lied to us about. And now once again the Pope, who is the highest religious leader in the Christian Faith and can no do wrong in the eyes of God for he is the MESSENGER of god and god SPEAKS through HIM, is now saying that the Popes befoere him were wrong and unjust, is telling me that that this Relilgion is based on lies and untrueths that keeps getting covered up and retold.

Once the trueth comes out, they try to cover it up by blaming some one else that is either dead or a MYTHILOGICAL CREATURE, like GOD or SATAIN, that was made up to give an explanation for the EVIL that man does, Because Christians are afraid to take respoibility for their evil tendencies and pray to God for forgiveness one day a week while betraying, hurting, stealing, killing and being just plain mean the other six days. These people are best freinds at church but wont acknoledge your existance out side of church.

Now get this right, I do believe in the PRIME MOVER. I just don't believe in the bible. It has nice stories and has some good moral points, but it has been changed over and over again to say what a new auther wants it to say instead of what it once said. There are many interpitations of the bible so this, in my oppinion, makes it inconsistant and untrustworthy. I believe that you don't have to go to church to believe, and worshiping one day a week does not work for me either. People who do this are hypicrites and I have very little to do with them religiously. I have found, in my experiances, that these Hipocrites are always trying to get people to goto their church and be apart of their social groups wile making them selves feel better about saving my soul that was already saved and didn't need to be tarnished by their beliefs.

I'm learnig somthing every day about religions and forming my own oppinions about them. I'm starting on thesis about it, using facts that I have found form researching and contributions from repitable sources.

This is My point of veiw and not intended to Insult anyone or make them angry, just another point of veiw for you to think about.

Sports,Politics,Religion, good topics to piss people off, some fanaticaly,..
Religion the opiate of the people as it's been called.

Wasn't it prophecied that there would come
a "Son of Perdition",,quit looking for some guy with 666 tatooed on his forehead.

Epheasins (if I spelled it right)-sec 4
verse 5,,one god, god faith, one baptisism.

Never believed it was the Roman Catholic Church.

But I still love the fact that we're the only
species that "think" about fucking"!!

Nice one Growler. Did you know that the number of the beast is also, said in the same chapter, the name of the beast. And that 666 in aciant Greek spells Nero Caeser, who was, when the book was written, in power and persicuting the people of that land so that he could control it.

Well, nobody special, you have piqued my curiosity. It appears we share a choice not to participate in Christian or any other mythology.

But the point of curiosity is, how do you spell a two word name with a single numeral? Frankly, I'm thoroughly baffled by that one.

With my brief understanding of Anciant Greek, they used the same symbols or words to mean differnt things when added to other symbols and words. Kind of the same way we use this language that we use to day. Just like your name for instance, Bill, you could be called William or Billy, all spelled differently but meaning the same person. Now how can I get a two sylible word out of a one sylible word, it's called language rules, wich I have thrown out of the window on this BB, if you havn't noticed. I'm not trying to piss you off, I just have tis tone about what I say and I sometimes do that unintentionally.

I believe in what christianity started as and not what it has become. I think that Socrates, Plato and Aristotle's points of views are comendable and make sence. Most people don't Know that their ideals are the basis for the Bible, and up untill the middle ages, and the Crusades, Aristotle was banned from Christianity and punishable by death for having anything with his name on it.

One of the biggest losses to the civelized world was "Plato's Accadamy" that the Christians closed down for 400 yrs because it was teaching people to think for themselves and have an oppinion of what is right and wrong. It has reopend but what was lost, can not be replaced.

As it has been stated, more people have been killed, maimed, destroyed, more wars started etc etc etc because of religion than any other factor in history.... However, the Catholic Church has indeed been guilty of attrocities that have topped the list. Their apology is hollow and meaningless, they are not serious if they were they would have looked closely at the actions way before this. There are things that they have done that aren't even known to the general public..... I get real fanatical about this, because the family homestead was taken by a roman catholic priest when he accused an ancestor of witchcraft in the old country. I find it interesting that the priest accused him of such after the priest made a "bid" on the ancestrial land and was turned down...... The Roman Catholic church has abused it power long enough, and as I said the apology it has offered is nothing compared to what they have done.
