Panties or knickers?

Whichever of the nouns you favour it reflects an item of clothing key to many erotic stories. I am currently working on a tale and wondered which of the two descriptions was preferred. I am not sure personally, although I think that 'panties' has a more 'basic' feel to it. Comments/views?

Depends on the character - to me "knickers" is a slightly more "naughty" term than "panties".
It's probably very culturally based - where I live "panties" are what little kids wear. I wear "undies" most of the time, but occasionally get out the frilly "knickers" for special occasions ;)

I always seem to use the word panties - In truth I don't actually like the word knickers - its a very old fashioned word and conjures up images of the 'knickers' my Nan used to wear - LOL - strange but true.

For kids, I'd use the word pants or underwear.

Hmmm

It really doesn't matter if you describe them well.

See, you've got it all wrong - Nan wore "bloomers"

Glad to be of service Drk! :D

"Knickers" is a very British word. In the states, it's panties, although often times it will be more descriptive (i.e. thong, bikini briefs, boy shorts, etc).

Thanks all ........

Not sure I have any better ideas after that :) but some of the replies made me smile - which, of course is always a good thing!

Ahh yes but she always used to call them 'Knickers' and now, for my sins, when I see the word, I always associate it with those knee-length bloomers. :D

Panties works all over the anglo-saxon world, and is probably the best choice. As far as I know, knickers is (are?) an English expression, charged with innuendo, sex and naughty girls. "Get your knickers off", is a line a Brit ex-boyfriend used to say to me.

Ogg could give us a good analysis, but, as far as I know, 'knickers' is very much the down and dirty Brit word - no thought of granny's bloomers.

I think its probably time I shoved Nan and her bloomers in the darkest little corner of my mind :) - French knickers are quite pretty. :D

Panties are best

In all my stories I use "panties". It has a more feminine sound to it. I love the word panties, it sends a tingle through my body. Also I love wearing them.
