The wife and I took a ride today. We planned on heading up to Jupiter Lighthouse then maybe going further north. I loaned my wife a pair of gloves to wear. She struggled to pull them on, (an older pair of roping gloves I haven't worn in a while.)

We took off heading for the Jupiter Lighthouse with the intention of getting some pictures. About halfway there we were stopped at a traffic light and I turned my head to ask my wife how she was doing. All I heard was a strangled sounding "I'm okay".

That didn't sound right so I pulled oveer in the next parking lot. No sooner had the bike stopped but my wife was off the bike and struggling to get the gloves off. I dropped the stand and caught her so I could help her with the gloves. Once they were off she had her helmet off in seconds and stood there red faced and teary eyed as she panted for breath. I knew the signs and got her to sit down as I peeled her jacket off her. A Panic Attack was getting ready to start. I got her to look at me and started talking to her. It didn't take me long to talk her down.

Once her breathing had returned to normal and her color was better I asked her what was going on. I wanted to find out what had set this off. It turns out she hadn't been able to grab aything while wearing the gloves. That made her feel unsafe on the bike and started freaking her out. The harder she tried to grab hold of something the worst it got. Well I picked up the gloves and tried them on. Yes they were stiff but no more than I expected. Instead of saying anything to her about this I looked around and found a convenient trash can where I deposited the gloves.

Then I handed her my gloves and told her to try them on which she did. I asked her how they felt and she said they felt fine. I told her to keep them on and we again climbed on the bike. Only this tiem we didn't head for our destination, we headed for the local bike dealership where I bought her a pair of gloves like mine only in a different color. (You want to be wearing gloves when you ride for several reasons, cold being way down on the list this time of year here in Florida.)

We didn't do the ride we wanted to today but we did get in a nice little 20 miler.
