In the course of my daily surfing, I came across this page, and started getting ideas. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if somebody has already posed this one.
How about a story, written with all due respect, about a couple of New Yorkers on 9/11. A couple of casual acquaintances, with no romantic or sexual history, who meet by chance in the immediate aftermath of the plane impacts.
Initially, they just stick together so that neither of them feels alone, but after a while, the fear, sadness and confusion surrounding the awful events drive them to seek some sexual comfort from this person they are only barely familiar with. I imagine it could become incredibly erotic, as the couple's urge to drown out the horror of reality with physical pleasure becomes stronger and stronger the further they progress.
In keeping with the theme of the article, I was thinking that a somewhat feel-good ending to the story might be that at the end of the spontaneous encounter, a child is conceived in the woman's womb. Following the catholic belief system, this could be the birth of the first pure soul, the first soul on earth who never had to endure the terrible events of that day, thus ending the story with a vibe of hope, while exploring the idea that death can bring with it the prospect of new life.
