Welcome one and all... I recently came across an interesting manga called Pandect. While I've read a little of the story I am not completely familiar with its inner workings. But the basic story concept has already appealed to me. The following information was found through a search on Wiki, I've tweaked various areas for game play and hopefully I can find some interested parties willing to join in.

Imagine if you will a world united. Animals and humans living together in harmony... while the humans have no idea of this, the animals are quite aware of their co-existence with the human race. This being that they look just like us in every aspect, this form is better known as Aces. The only thing that sets the animals apart from humans are slight features that carry over from into their Ace appearance.
While throughout humanity we have viewed animals as mere soulless creatures it is no longer true. Through some unknown force, animals all over are given souls on a daily basis. They are born into infant bodies and raised among their Ace kind until they are able to function on their own. After which they assume respectable roles in the human society. Politians, bankers, teachers or even your neighbor could be an Ace.
Aces are unaware by the humans around them and though they generate professional relationships and co-exsist with one another, it is forbidden for an Ace to reproduce with a human. It is even more forbidden to speak of the Kingdom to humans for they would never understand; but the risk is high that humans might try to dominate the Kingdom should they learn of its inner workings.
In an alternate present day New York, recent reports have poured in from all over the city of sparactic killings. Bloody and very gory in detail, these reports have caused an outcry to the general public. With no reports of having found the killer, people are growing more alarmed by the minute.
However, in the animal world there is a general panic that the Kingdom's secrets will be revealed. As such, the Dark Empire has been given explicit instructions to hunt and dispose of these creatures along with their disposal are the Aces and humans that helped to create them. The Dark Prince has arisen and his job is clear, to contain this epidemic before the humans discover the Kingdom's secret...

WHAT IS AN ACE?
Animals are soulless creatures, created by God to be lower than human beings. An Ace is an animal who has earned a soul. They exist in two bodies; the Ace form, which is human, and the animal form, which is the original creature, and they can shift between these forms at will. They have the intelligence and free will of humans. They are generally real animals; that is, animals which exist in real life.
Aces exist alongside humans and always have, undetected. Humans have kept Aces in zoos and even as pets. It is forbidden for an Ace to explain the Kingdom to a human; it is also unlikely that humans would even understand the explanation. The clothing and/or hair of an Ace somewhat resembles the look of his or her Animal form; however, Aces are NOT anthropomorphic animals (i.e. furries). The easiest way to see the resemblance is to look for one or two characteristics which are prominent on the Animal form and find them on the Ace form. Behavior, habits, and idiosyncrasies can also be transferred between Ace and Animal forms.
ACE RANKS
Ace society is a hierarchy. When an animal becomes an Ace, it will assume that rank for the rest of its life. The ranks are as follows:
* Prince Ace - The highest ranking Ace. They guard a certain area of land on earth assigned by the Mother or are in charge of certain elements in the spiritual world. Some Princes have additional roles; for example, the Black Prince, is the Judge of the Kingdom. These roles are hereditary. The Prince inherits them with his title. There are females that acquire this role they are also called Princes (not princesses).
* Legendary Ace - They are Aces who have done greater than average achievements, usually those who have excelled in their tasks. They outrank non-Legendary Aces of the same rank (i.e. a Legendary Gladiator outranks other Gladiators but would not outrank a Prince). Any Ace rank may become Legendary.
* Gladiator Ace - Middle ranking Ace, assigned to serve and protect Prince Aces. Gladiators have immense physical strength and resilience. They also have certain combat powers not available to other Aces. Think of them as bodyguards to their prince.
* Ace - Regular Ace, not distinguished by high or low status. They have no particular duties or privileges, though they may have special abilities.
* Servant Ace - Lowest ranking Ace, they are granted a soul by their Prince, which means they did not earn it themselves. They dedicate their entire lives to serving the Prince, being completely obedient and complying with every order and request. They are the only rank with the possibility of changing ranks but only if they earn what might have been their initial destined rank. If the mother calls them to duty, they are allowed to earn their rank given to them, but they will always remain a servant. (i.e. they earn Legendary Ace but will remain a servant to their prince.)
* Empire - An Empire is a group of Aces of the same species comprised of a Prince, a Servant, two or three Gladiators, and several Regular Aces. A strong Empire can command the respect of any Prince.
ACE LOYALTY
It is presumed that an Ace's first loyalty will be to the Mother and to the Kingdom; that is, to the good of all animals. The relationship of the Aces to the human world is more complex; Aces admire (and perhaps slightly envy) humans, since humans are born with souls. Yet many Aces, especially wild Aces, regard humans with suspicion; conversely, domestic Aces have no difficulty with them.
It is strongly suggested that the final settlement between humans and Aces will come in the future, in an event Aces refer to as Judgment Day. On that day, apparently, humans will be called to give account for their treatment of the natural world, and may receive punishment. Some Aces eagerly await that day, while others have resolved to protect the humans from their fellow Aces: thus Judgment Day may turn into an Ace civil war.
ACE HISTORY AND LAW
It is not known when the first Aces appeared. The historians of the Ace world are the Servants, whose collective Journals comprise the Kingdom Library. The most important of these is the Pandect, the code of Ace law. Aces, who have both a human soul and an animal's view on the world, may combine the worst of both qualities. They are capable of doing good or evil deeds. They are also capable of being petty, prejudiced, or outright cruel. They can be caught up in religious or quasi-religious fervor, become fanatically devoted to causes or persons, have obsessions, jealousies, and rivalries. In short, they are as fallible as human beings.
The office of Black Prince (the Prince who judges lawbreakers) probably emerged soon after the acceptance of the Pandect. No other legal system has been mentioned, though the Mother may exact justice directly, punishing the bad and rewarding the good. Despite this, Aces make war amongst themselves in minor-to-major skirmishes. The most recent (and painful) of these was the Serpent War. The wounds caused by the Serpent War are still raw but healing. The War ended over 100 years previously, but Aces have long lives and long memories...

THE SERPENT WAR
A hundred years ago to this date all Serpent Aces rallied together to destroy all things non-serpent, generating the Serpent Empire. An actual genocide of all outside Aces and humans alike. This war turned out to be a bloody battle barely won by the combined efforts of the Dark Prince and neighboring empires. While the war lasted far too long, it ended just as quickly with the slaughter of all Serpent Aces. Thusly, the Dark Prince ordered of the Mother to punish the serpents by holding out on their aces. This ruling was ordained for 100 years to this date; though surviving serpents of the war became servants to various prince aces for puninshment. They were not often treated kindly.
Now with the ruling carried out serpants are once more being called into action by the Mother as they are given souls for finishing tasks asked of them. Many of these serpents are being rewarded high ranks while others are low ranked.
The animal kingdom is very weary of another Serpant War, with the revival of Serpant Aces. They are even more weary of the rivival of the first Serpent prince in over 100 years.
ROLES
The following roles are very important, and so I will be very picky. Post for what role you want, depending on my history playing with you and my knowledge of your character types, I'll deliberate accordingly.
The Dark Prince - Judge and Executioner, the Dark Prince is the oldest of all the Aces in the Kingdom. He has recorded accounts of most all wars including the Serpent War which he aims to prevent happening again with the rising of serpent Aces. His major focus is to track down the new Serpent Prince and test his sanity and harmony with the Kingdom. The Dark Prince works to keep the Kingdom harmonized and peaceful thusly if anyone is found breaking Pandect Law he will be there to rectify the issue. He works directly with the Mother in the Dark Empire which is comprised of his servant, two gladiators, one legendary, and various regular aces. [can be any animal race; must be male]
The Serpent Prince - unaware of the 100 year ago Serpent Wars, this new serpent prince has been putting the Kingdom on edge. Growing up in an all serpent empire with foster parents, he's been trained to carry out deeds of a past he knows nothing about. With the weariness of the Kingdom and word that the Dark Prince is out to get him, the serpent prince has opted to run. Reason unknown he has left his region in hopes of finding answers to the constant prejudices bestowed upon him upon birth. [can be female or male]
Mother - The Mother is the founder and sustainer of the Kingdom. It is not entirely clear what she is, but she appears to be Mother Earth or Mother Nature. All Aces revere her as a demi-divine being. [this role taken]
Vampires - created from the forbidden love of humans and aces coupling. They are soulless and brainless creatures with no remorse for life. Killing animal, ace, and humans alike. They can be destroyed before birth through the process of killing the mother. When they are born it is acceptionally hard to kill them due to speed and regenerative abilities, but much like fiction stab them in the heart or slice of their head and they are finished. Despite this they are not like their fictional counterparts, they dont' drink blood, fly, or combust in sunlight. In fact, they are merely killers with no conscious mind or soul. [open to anyone for NPC purposes]

* We definately need humans. Without them there is no story, the humans will co-exist with the aces but know nothing of their world. While the aces know everything of theirs.

* Anyone can play some mindless creature to make things interesting. This can be a side bar action squence or whatever you want. Profiles are not needed for vampires and in fact you can NPC them to your hearts content. The Dark Empire will most likely be hunting these creatures down in between missions. So until you are able to bring your character in perhaps taking up one of these creatures is ideal.

Powers: Glamour allowing her to appear human despite her kitsunemimi form. She controls the natural disasters of earth as a whole, being Mother Nature itself.
Appearance: She associates herself as a Kistune, in human form she has fox ears and nine fox tails. Long flowing blond hair and traditional kimono although rather revealing. Because of her animal features she casts a glamour effect in her general area allowing any human to come in contact with her to see a mere human woman, no tails, no ears. Aces however are not effect though they immediately know who she is and shows proper respects with a bow.
Bio: Mother of all animals, and seer of all things in the Animal Kingdom, Gaia is by far an enigma. She has often been depicted as Mother Nature herself as considered by her name. If anything she is a supreme being with only one purpose. To aid her children in their dreams of acquiring a soul. While she wishes for the humans and aces to harmonize as one, it is forbidden law for a human or ace to procreate thusly birthing a vampire. Gaia can descended to Earth in a human form if only to partake of the pleasure that life brings. She is always accompanied by the Dark Empire and its Prince when on Earth.
[*Note: Gaia at some point will have a steady love interest in both the human and ace world... I'll pick these two people through game play with a PM stating this. Also, Gaia will contact aces with missions they must carry out... so you'll never know when I may PM you. Check your inbox regularly, and be sure its turned on or you may miss out. ]
