Imagine that you were starting a new roleplaying story from scratch. You had already decided that the story would take place within and around a palace. Using your creativity skills, describe this palace and the characters that would feature in your thread. Also explain how you would like your story to develop.

Try not to look at other posts under this thread until you have developed your own ideas. Treat this as practice to improve on your own skills. Once you have posted your creation you may look at other posts and decide whether your original post can be improved or not.

If you have any questions, please PM me instead of asking them within this thread.

I look forward to your posts.

Okay - suit yourselves. But it was the idea that counted. It doesn't matter to me if no one wants to post anything. It took off brilliantly on the other site. It's obvious you're all pro's here isn't it?

Hmmm... you know, I've just watched Equilibrium. And I thought it would be cool to roleplay one of the Tetragrammaton Clerics.

In Equilibrium, humankind is put together by a drug, called Equilibrium, that eliminates feelings. Works of art such as music, movies, and anything else that might inspire imaginative thoughts or feelings are destroyed (a shocking scene in the movie is when a group of cops and a Cleric find the original Mona Lisa, and the Cleric orders it to be burnt).

Architecture, weapons, vehicles and clothes are plain in design and colors. Everything is done in efficient ways, and only instincts, the coldest thoughts and minds, and complete obedience remain.

The Tetragrammaton Clerics are special warriors trained to be the greatest killing machines the Father, humankind's leader, can use. By using the Gun-Katas, a martial art that consists in the use of handguns to shoot the enemy while avoiding being shot from predictable angles, the Clerics are the most dangerous enemy the resistance can face.

The resistance are those few who refuse to consume Equilibrium. They hide outside the cities, and under ground, and they guard art works of any kind. From the most suntuous, famous painting, to the simplest mirror frame. Even something as simple as a golden mirror frame is an "EC-10". A sense offending item, that condemns its user to being incinerated alive.

The idea would be that, after Cleric Preston killed the Father and the resistance destroyed many of the Equilibrium factories (a drug that eliminates feelings, thus making people more predictable and easier to control, as well as more conformist with a regime), the government moved to another city still under their control, from where the many divisions of the Librian armies (Libria is the name of this civilization) still received orders to destroy the resistance and control the few precious Equilibrium factories left.

The characters would be mostly personnel in this palace, from guards, to janitors, to officers in the army... and of course, Clerics. Most of them are true Librians, who take their Equilibrium doses regularly. Others, a few, are members of the resistance or waiting to be, and discontinue the use of the drug.

The game would be a constant cat-and-mouse game inside the palace, with the "sense offenders" hiding their feelings from the Librians. Smiling, crying, frowning, even shifting eyes in a suspicious way are enough to reveal a person's status...

The main characters would be the new Father or Mother, with the same skills as a Cleric, the Clerics in the palace, and the miscellanious personnel one would expect from a totalitarian regime with no regard for feelings. Everyone has a duty to carry out, a house to live in, and food to consume, and that's it.

I imagine the palace would be huge yet with a simple design, walls mostly painted in grey, black, white, beige... simple, plain, discreet colors. The furniture is the same. The only concessions are in the leader's room, which is lavishly decorated, and the gardens, that although still simple, are beautiful. If you think about it... coldly, and calmly.

I like this idea because changing loyalties is, literally, easier than doing so in a Matrix thread. Maybe a Cleric finds a reason to stop having Equilibrium. As days go by, that Cleric will start feeling again... but will have to keep his/her feelings hidden, and stay cool in the fights that are due to come when the castle's personnel find out that he/she is a traitor, or when the resistance tries to establish contact. Even the Father/Mother could be, or is, a sense offender...
