Pain

damnit...

thanks for sharing the wealth, 'Rora

gosh, is it a comfort to know she's out of pain??? Somehow that never comforts me, and I don't know why... I know it does some people...

stupid quote comes to my head, "Life is pain... anyone who tells you different is selling something."

My favorite quotes on pain:

"I am The Pain. I will guide you to a world of anguish beyond your imagination."

- The Pain, Metal Gear Solid 3.

"Given the choice between the experience of pain and nothing, I would choose pain." ~ William Faulkner

"Life is pain. You just get used to it." ~ Geena Davis, Long Kiss Goodnight.

"So much pain..."
"Pain can be controlled. You just disconnect it."
"So you feel nothing?"
~ Sarah and Kyle, Terminator.

"People are afraid of themselves, of their own reality; their feelings most of all. People talk about how great love is, but that's bullshit. Love hurts. Feelings are disturbing. People are taught that pain is evil and dangerous. How can they deal with love if they're afraid to feel? Pain is meant to wake us up. People try to hide their pain. But they're wrong. Pain is something to carry, like a radio. You feel your strength in the experience of pain. It's all in how you carry it. That's what matters. Pain is a feeling. Your feelings are a part of you. Your own reality. If you feel ashamed of them, and hide them, you're letting society destroy your reality. You should stand up for your right to feel your pain." ~ Jim Morrison

I too know a lot about pain. I have in my time dealt with injuries, diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, Alzheimer's, and on a personal basis Asperger's Syndrome. Not to mention all kinds of nasty emotional pain-dramas. Sometimes I weave them into my stories. Mostly, though, I keep it bottled up. Occasionally it rushes out, often to be deleted. It is never forgotten, though. And never does it not engender sympathy.

RIP Colleen Thomas, wonderful writer and lady I never knew.
