I've posted several stories here, and I would like to think that some have faired well, while others have meekly popped their heads over the bar, backing away into oblivion with it's tail tucked.

So what kind of numbers on story views are considered good? Do I have a false sense of security in thinking that I might be "getting it" just because I think it's getting read a lot?

I know that one of my stories (with a hair over 3000 reads - yikes) is a flop as far as views go, even though it has a 'H'ot rating. Even that wonderful 'H' doesn't get it too many reads. On the other hand, the story with the highest count is not rated nearly as high, but it still gets consistent views.

What kind of views do your stories get? Do you have an average number of views, comments, or votes?

In my opinion, there is no ''average'.

What category are they in? Incest will get far more readers than romance or non-erotic, for example.
Do they have a fan base? If so, most of them will read anything that author writes.
Is the title catchy? What about the description line? Both will draw attention to the story.
Even the day of the week the story posts can have an impact on the reads.

The categories are usually 'Erotic Couplings' with a few Voyeur, BDSM, and Group Sex.

lol, I have no fan base. If nothing else, I'm too new with too few 'hit' stories.
I've tried to make sure the titles and descriptions match the content, plus be catchy enough to draw interest. Maybe some just worked better than others... The "How To" stories covering this were sure helpful.

Thanks for your response MistressLynn!

Nope, no average for such things. If the "views" seem really low for that catagory, there's probably something not catchy with your title or blurb. Not really a problem with the text of the story, because once they've clicked into it and before they've started to read, it registers as a view.

I don't think 3,000 is a low number anyway--not in contrast with most story Web sites that don't have the high volume of readers that Lit. has. And especially not compared to the paying market, where you could struggle to get even a couple of hundred to open it up.

This question has been asked many times. It all depends on three things.

1. The state of the readers.
2. The interest your story generates.
3. The Category the story is posted in.

All three are screwy, have no relation to each other and are subject to whim.

You can look at the 'Last 30 days' in the top lists of whichever category you're posting in to get a rough idea of the usual vote counts/scores stories pick up in that category.

The views count isn't too helpful as it just indicates how many clicked on the story link rather than how many people read the whole story.

Mine are the same way. The highest rated has the fewest views. I think category has a lot to do with it. Some categories here are just read more than others.
