I've been thinking a lot lately about wise female rulers such as Ozma, Glenda the Good Witch, and so on. It might be nice to live in a magic land where tall females with noble brows and silver stars affixed upon their foreheads walked in golden sandals dressed in glowing, diaphanous robes. One look at the John R. Neill illustration of Ozma upon the frontispiece of my copy of The Emerald City Of Oz is enough to convince me that she would be a wise and just ruler. Her expression combines playfulness with gravity; love with calm abiding confidence.

I was interested to learn that Frank Baum's wife was a notable feminist of her time as was his mother-in-law.

I so love anything diaphanous.

I'm looking more for a stern, maternal, lawgiving sorcereress wisdom...sorry, no diaphanous garments for you. :p

No?

Now then I must question who is the wise one?

Dear Mr. Rathbone, Esq.

May I inquire as to the nature of your fascination with diaphanous female rulers? Do you wish to disrupt their serenity? Do you wish to either break them and overtly take over? Or perhaps your interest is to some insinuate yourself into their psyche and become the Power Behind the Throne? Is your interest just scholarly, in that you wish to study the nature of female power? Your comments give me a mental image of yourself walking in a garden with Athena, she of the grey eyes and noble brow, talking of the philosophy of ruling. I find the incongruity of such an image to be fascinating.

Sincerely,

snowy the non-diaphanous non-ruler

Sometimes, even I, rosco, desire to lay my head in the lap of some all powerful mother figure. I don't see why a wise ruler would not permit my normal activities to take place in her kingdom as long as no lasting harm were done...

All in all, if I could take over, that would ruin the whole point of the idea. I'm a patriarchal pig, but I do pay homage to the univeral Feminine principle which is embodied in Kali, The Virgin Mary, Ozma, and others.

Well said for such a "patriarchal pig."

Comments like this make it easy to see why one would bow down to one such as you.

Not really maternal, but would you settle for a creepy aunt who will bathe you and fondle your naughty bits?

I am so turned on right now.

Dear Mr. Rathbone, Esq.

Thank you for your prompt and informative response to my query. Your honesty and your admiration of the Ladies mentioned above make this humble hand grenade yearn to be a diaphanous ruler, for only a fleeting moment. Which brings to mind an interesting conundrum about the nature of the submissive mind.

I find it somewhat interesting that a submissive personality would be willing to assume (or attempt to assume because I question my abilities to do such a thing) the mantle of benign ruler ship in order to serve that need in a Dominant personality.

your obediant servant,

S.C.

Note to all: any commentary about service to Mr. Roscoe Rathbone, Esq, Mayor of Topopolis and Headmaster of the Cane's School for Wayward Urchins was not an attempt to molest, was general commentary only, with no specific intent to serve in mind. It was merely gentle commentary about the nature of Benign female leaders as I fear that the Lord Mayor would be too difficult a task master to task for....

This has nothing to do with wise rulers of Oz or mother figures, but this comment brought back a very nice memory. I was 12 and at my favorite science summer camp in the semi-arid desert. We had all gone on a long hike in the broiling heat and stopped after several hours to rest under the small shade of a juniper tree. After eating our lunches, one or two of the older boys, including the college student leading the group, had put their heads into the laps of the older girls. A boy about my own age or slightly younger, whom I barely knew and hadn't really spoken to, saw this and without saying a word lay down with his head in my lap. I was charmed beyond belief and also a little aroused. But mostly it just felt romantic. He also liked it a lot--he smiled up at me a lot and then seemed to go to sleep. I don't think I had been aware of myself as female until that moment.

Here we have the universal mother in her wrathful, vengeful, or Kali aspect in a piebald robe of manskin with 7 attendant demons in her train. In her left hand the flail and in her right, the knout.

...and you're going to put your head in her lap?

Don't do it...run while you still have your skin.

Clearly pay-per-view material.
