Ok, I have what my son eloquently refers to as An Owie Booboo.

I have my very first ever COLD SORE!

It HURTS!

It's HUGE, and getting bigger by the hour!

So... since I have never had one.. how do you go about getting rid of one? Anything at all help em? It feels kinda tingly, and numb, and hurts when I talk or smile. :(

HELP!

You poor thing! Get yourself straight to a chemist and pick up some really good cream for it - don't even bother with the cheap stuff. Don't play with it, don't ice it, don't go out in the sun and don't wear lipstick (or you'll just spread it all over your lips).

Does that go for chap stick to? Cause I'vbeen slathering that on all morning!

What kinds of creams are the good ones?

Throw the chapstick out. A, you are probably spreading germs all over your mouth, B, if you us it later (or someone else) then there will be a reinfection.

I live in Australia so the brand names of creams are probably different. Zoloft is popular here, just ask your chemist he/she will have the best idea.

Oh, another thing the sooner you treat a cold sore the better the chance of getting rid of it before it opens.

Lmao - NOT I repeat NOT Zoloft!!! Ooops, not quite sure where I got that from. Try Zovirax instead. Sorry Gilly. :)

You should go to a Dr. to get the prescription cream for it if it's a cold sore cause it is highly contagious!

And the doc will tell ya all about it if it's a cold sore.
Basically if it is, you'll be getting them for the rest of your life.

Ginny is right about the herpies thing.
That is what cold sores are.Just a different type of herps.
Sorry to worry you if we're wrong.

Hopefully it's just a pimple that is infected or something.
Best of luck at the doc's office.(If you go)

HELP!

You know...I've always been cold sores every since I've been a little kid. Some of them hurts like a bitch, but others are annoying. Right now I have one right on the inside of my cheek and another one right on my bottom lip near my teeth. *sigh* I dunno why I always get them. :(

Thanks guys!

Now.... what is the cause of these damn things?

It's passed by not washing hands, kissing, oral sex.
Basically by human contact with someone who has it.
:(

Just one thing for you,go out and by Abreva.

Its a little tube, costs about $15 for it and if you go to the drug store, you might have to ask the pharmacist,as they hide it to keep it from being stolen.

But it works in one day, which to me is a good thing.

That's strange... neither me nor hubby has ever gotten em. Can you get it from being sick with a cold or the flu? Cause we have all had that lately.

you can get them from salty food, or from hard candie.

a cancor sore is the same as a cold sore right?

I've been geting them all my life.
there's lots of ways you can get them, the ones mentioned are just some.
The main reason I get them is too much acidic content in my food or drinks.
If you've been drinking a lot of pop, eating a lot of gravy, ketchup, etc., anything with a lot of acid in it, it tends to turn the tiny gashes in your mouth lining that appear regularly as a result of your teeth into cankers or cold sores.
You can get medicine for it, but the best way I've found is to just rinse your mouth with salt water. Salt is a base, and neutralizes the acidic content. It also cleans the sore, getting rid of the bacteria that are present.
Every couple hours, make yourself a glass of warm water, and put as much salt in it as you can dissolve into it. stir it, and rinse your mouth with it.
Repeat until the waters gone.
The sore should be gone within a day or so.

Also, be sure to avoid lipstick, chapstick, kissing, or anything else that involves foreign objects near your mouth. It spreads the infection and raise the chances of reinfection later.
I also reccommend you change your toothbrush as soon as the sore disappears.
And avoid pop, ketchup, and anything with acidic content. They'll make it worse, prolong it, and probaly spread it around your mouth.

:(

I don't want cold sores for life. :(

I'm sitting here realizing how much I kiss the kids, and my husband, and scared of spreading it. If I get it on my mouth, is it spreadable to genitals? Cause... Damn!

No, hon, a canker sore is a small ulcer/sore that's usually inside of the mouth. :)

Thanks for the article, and all the help. After reading the article, I'm almost positive that it is a cold sore. I just have no idea what else it could be.

Ick. :(
