Overcritical? No - always negative

After the latest comment from Overcritical I have reluctantly taken the decision to delete ALL his comments on any of my works.

He lives up to his user name. His posts are grammatical, well-written and longer than most but universally negative criticism. No story pleases him and he seems not to take into any account the amount of effort that goes into writing any story for Literotica.

I have reluctantly decided that enough is enough. His comments ignore other people's enjoyment of a particular story and always denigrates my work.

So? He and his comments are now gone.

I have only been here a few months and even I have heard of Overcritical. He definitely has a reputation. He has commented on three of my stories, and positively on all occasions. I nearly had a heart attack, when I noticed he had left a comment, I was so sure I was about to get trashed :D

But I have evidence, that not all his comments are negative.

I am pleased that some aren't but all those for me have been. His attitude generally is tending to deter authors from posting any more stories.

Thanks for the heads up, Ogg. Never heard of this commenter.

But now I feel left out. I've been on here much longer than Omenainen and haven't attracted a single attack from this person.

Is there a waiting list where I have to sign up? Or does he focus only on the top-tier talent like Ogg and Omenainen? :)

Haha! You need to write Romance. At least all of mine that he's commented have been there. I don't know what else he reads.

Yes, you could call him...overcritical. Well, at least it seems he's self conscious.

What I have found odd is that his comments have been on older stories. The last one was on a story from January 2015.

I don't understand the way people like this think. It's fine to be critical. But why overdo it, or get nasty and discouraging? And if you don't care for someone's work why keep going back to it? It makes no sense to me. Some people must have an enormous amount of time on their hands to spend it reading so many stories they don't like.

You could always ask him, but it might draw him to your catalog, so maybe better not :D

And overcritical's comments tend to be far longer than most. I hesitated to delete them because he obviously put so much effort into them - but they were uniformly depressing.

An annoying little dog is still an annoying little dog, and its crap still messes up your lawn. You're just exercising your right to keep your lawn tidy.

So what if the "critiques" are lengthy? That doesn't justify continued negativity, and it doesn't mean you have to accept being continually targeted.

I had one anonymous commenter who seemed to be following me around. I guessed it was the same person because the content and the writing style seemed to be the same each time. I used to rebut him, but eventually I ignored him, and he went away (I think it was a male). He seemed to come back once and I ignored him again.

It seems that this overcritical person was more persistent.

I can only recall one comment from Overcritical. He/she disagreed with my story's ending. Maybe he/she had a point. Maybe I could have seeded a few more clues during the course of the story. But I, the author, thought that I had left enough. And, anyway, Overcritical left me five stars. :)

Never heard of him, must not grace the taboo stories with his presence.

Lit gives us the power to do what we want, which is what you did.

If it were me, the fact his comments are detailed and well written would make him close to a unicorn and I'd keep him around, but that's me.

Too bad some people are like that. You have to wonder if they take perverse joy in always being negative or are they just that way and they don't ever enjoy anything? Either is kind of sad.

To the contrary a poster that has been around for years and has never said a bad word on anyone's stories is "Yamiboy" he posts on all my taboo and mature stories, not sure if he reads in other areas, but he has a reputation among some of the authors I'm friendly with as being just supportive, positive, and most importantly to Ogg's point...this guy gets the work that goes into stories as most of his comments have "thank you for your effort/work" somewhere in them.

Guess there's a Ying to every yang

OverlyCritical would be more apt! He started. Y bagging a lot of my stories then praised several and not has told me he won’t read anymore because they are too formulaic.

But he did praise several of yours as well, so it is possible to get positive comments out of him, if you just happen to cater to his likes. I wonder how long it will take for me to fall from his grace.

There is a kind of point to him, I just posted last part to my series-that-isn't-series that he's been commenting on, and I'm waiting to see what he says. It's nice to have at least one comment I can be relatively sure is going to pop up.

I had one of those. Haven't heard from them since my return from hiatus *knocks on wood*

*looks in thesaurus to see if "formulaic" is a synonym for "long"* ;)

Isn't this true of every reader?

Most don't praise stories they didn't like

This site is getting pathetic. Next thing you know we'll have people running to Laurel to bad readers who are negative cause wahhhhhh negative.

But then the same people will complain they get no comments of feedback

welcome to 2020 snowflake edition lit where 5's are the only legit votes but then anyone with too many five votes and too high of a score must be cheating-and authors huddle together in fear of the big meanies who say negative things about their amazing always perfect stories.

Well, sure. But since this commentator is one that makes also negative remarks on stories they don't like, it can feel like they never say anything positive. I just wanted to point out they do, in fact, do that as well. Now why he reads stories he doesn't like, I couldn't tell.

Yes and no. If I would've gotten a bunch of negative comments and 1-votes on my first story, I doubt I'd ever published the second one. It takes a certain mileage to grow a teflon coating. I don't know how folks that start out in Loving Wives do it, honestly, so maybe there's some other breed of writers out there, but I don't believe I'm in some way unusual in this.
