The best in my recent memory

Okay, I might be biased here, but I truly do think that
these Winter Games in my memory have been the best.
Not only was the US team deep in talent this year, but
there was the sense of national pride brought on by
9/11.....more patriotism.....more being proud to be an
American.

I've always been enthused by the Olympics, winter and
summer, even when I was a tot. I was very excited
after the opening ceremonies back on 2/8 that I decided
to channel my enthusiasm into running an Olympic thread
which many Lit members have looked at and/or
contributed to. I enjoy sharing my joy and enthusiasm
of the Games with friends, family, and my peers here on
Literotica :)

Too many friggin' Mormons and we lost both hockey golds to the Canucks, but other than that it was passable.

Thumbs up

I was extremely impressed by the whole Olympic deal this year. The Winter Olympics are my favorite, and with the extra channel cable coverage (and the fact I've been home looking for employment and was able to keep the TV on), I was able to get absorbed with following my favorite sports.

I actually missed a lot of "live" events due to my obsession with ice hockey! But the games were exciting and all the events showed a lot of drama and excellent performances.

I thought the opening ceremony was the best I've ever seen, and the closing was colorful and inventive.

Now I'll just have to really get a job soon as there will be nothing worthwhile on the tube!

Thanks Tigerjen for starting this thread. It was a great way to recap the events of each day!:rose:

This was the best closing ceremonies ever

:p

i had to work during both the opening and closing ceremonies...so that sucked

and the whole judging scandal left a bad taste throughout

and honestly, i would love to see us win more of the traditional winter sports rather than the ones we've invented over the last couple of decades...

but there were some simply amazing moments that sent tingles up my spine, like when Sarah Hughes won the gold...her response was so genuine...so filled with joy...

she was overflowing with the thrill of what she'd done, and that's what it's all about...her moment made the whole games worth watching all by itself

That's a fairly accurate assessment I'd say.

I'd like to see fewer ,rather than more judged events in the future.

I've been wondering though. Our Kiwi friends often do better than anyone in medals considering the population of their country
in the Summer Games. They've got Mountains& glaciers & skiing.
Why aren't they a force in the Winter Games?

Do you think it has anything to do with the Winter Olympics scheduled during the Aussie summertime?:D

I was surprised to view the countries in the medals listing, and thought the same thought of some of the "winter" countries and their representation.

Good question.....just ask the Aussie skiier, Alisa C.
(help! can't remember the rest of her last name!).....
she said they practice going into a pond full of
leeches! not kidding about that!
remember, our winter is their summer......and as to
my knowledge, they don't get much snow, if any at
all...I could be wrong about that.

in regards to judging events........the figure skating
judging will be changed after all that stuff happened....
we'll see......but events such as speed skating, luge,
bobsled, skiing......they need a system of sorts to see
who comes in the fastest...that's not going to change.
