I've opined on damn near every subject that's ever come up on this board. And so many of them rear their head again with each generation of new posters. It's one of the reasons that I stick with current topics (branding me as a 'political' poster in the eyes of many). Some of which I post about is transient, most is an attempt to discuss topics with a longer view. Regardless that are so many stuck in the past not quite realizing that;

1. the past is not a reliable prediction of future behavior, and indeed may be a path to repeating past mistakes.

2. there are core 'rules' that contribute to a polite and orderly society.

Each generation has to sort through which is which and make a mistake and that society is dead. History shows that each great culture/society/government of the past committed suicide by forgetting

Moving on to the point. If I ever feel so motivated I'm going to go back through my posts on various subjects and create a library. And then whenever a topic comes up I can just post a link to a response from years ago. Better yet I'll just treat it like the PM's question hour and reply with "thread xxxxxxxxxxxx post yyyyyyy" and see how many actually are interested enough to look the posts up or are just posting to hear the sound of their own voice.

You start a conversation you can't even finish it.
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything.
When I have nothing to say, my lips are sealed.
Say something once, why say it again?

Polite in the sense of more 'diplomatic.' the difference was that the assholes were called out and castigated without mercy. Somewhere along the line we got overwhelmed with assholes.

When I was dealing with my cancer I could not believe the venomous hatred that was, and still is, directed at me. Maybe it's a game to them...

The worst offenders were/are some of Laurel's favorites. Go figure. :)

Be not of heavy heart, "The Times They are a Changing."

Which is to say, smile and watch the desperate parade.

You got me chuckling, Ish. You made a point - actually numbered it - about the pitfalls of using history as a predictor of the future, then almost immediately supported your main two arguments with - wait for it - a lesson from history.

How are you?

How are you?

Doing well oh mother of my unborn child.

I figured that you would catch that paradox if you were still peaking in from the cold. But it IS a paradox, isn't it? The eternal struggle.

I've never been a huge fan of change for change's sake. Maybe that is at the core of what divides the liberals from the conservatives, simple as it may be.

Scorpions - Wind Of Change

I had a contract to do a custom floor (acid staining) for a banker friend once in a custom house he was building. He and the wife allowed the daughter to pick the wall colours for her room, she picked "Pepto Bismol" pink. We all took one look and said, "No!"

Took four coats to cover it up.

I fucking love that song. Seriously. It's awesome.

I figure when I fuck up, knowing people will know. It's not a bad thing unless they're cunts.

Like me.

The song has a very specific subject, don't over think it ladies.

I don't think liberals like change for change's sake any more than conservatives do. I really don't. There really are good reasons to change lots of things. I think the difference between liberals and conservatives is in the sense (or lack) of urgency to change. A sense of urgency can't be measured, of course, so we tend to point to the most conservative or the most liberal of people to brand with the names. But the truth is, most of us fall along a scale between those two ends.

I've been called a liberal, but if a liberal is defined only by the far endpoint of liberalism, then I most surely am not. Personally, I find it sad that it's the endpoints of the conservative/liberal spectrum that have taken center stage. We're flipping wildly back and forth between the two.

And yeah, most of that isn't relevant at all to what you said, but I'm in a wandering mood tonight.

Liberals can't seem to be able to see beyond the fact that people are different.
