Heels clicked a sharp march across the polished marble of the parlor floors. A clearly seething Doctor Leliana Shane make quick work of the length from one wall to the other of the lavishly appointed main room of the oversized manor house she shared with her husband. In one hand she clenched her cell phone. Still warm from the extended period spent pressed against her cheek as she apologized at length for having to so abruptly cancel a scheduled appearance with her husband at a local college who's medical program she had closely and ardently nurtured into success. Still wondering at just what had happened earlier that had led to this point. And just where was her husband.

××Three Hours Earlier××

The elevator doors slid open to admit into the quiet and subdued office floor belonging to Senator Shane and his staff. As Dr. Shane (1) stepped off the elevator she nearly collided with one of the interns. Managing to stop just short and favoring the girl with an apologetic smile that was met with a nervous almost pitying gaze before the girl scampered off. Lips pressed together as the brisk stride resumed. The click of heels muffled by plush carpet as she made her way towards her husband's office. She glanced at her watch realizing they were already behind schedule. Still as she reached the office door and nudged it open without announcing herself she paused and merely observed the scene before her.

Her husband's newest assistant, some blonde 20 something who's name she could never remember, half on half off his lap. A hand stroking between his legs as he kissed and bit at her neck. Giving a showy moan. Leliana knowing one well when she heard it. The two were so caught up in their own endeavors they hadn't even noticed her watching on from just inside the partially shut door. As she watched Warren's hands move to slide down whatever her name was' panties she decided enough was enough.

"We're going to be late fer our appearance at the college dearest."

Her voice was a pretty dulcet ring, distinct with the lilt of a softened Irish accent. Still at the sound of it Warren's assistant jolted. Quickly removing herself from his lap and attempting to straighten herself out as Warren merely cast a disinterested glance at his watch.

"O-oh Mrs. Shane, how nice to see you. You look gorgeous as always."

"That's Dr. Shane, Marissa."

"It's um, Melinda, actually Dr. Shane. B-but Marissa is close enough! I was just um, dropping off this mail for Senator Shane."

"Aye, I'm sure it required both if your close attention."

Warren cleared his throat at that comment shooting a pointed scowl at her. One which she returned with a mere glare behind a patient smile. Melinda, making a wise decision merely deposited the stack of letters on the desk and quickly took her leave, shutting the door to the office behind her. Warren didn't offer a word, picking up the mail and sorting through it. Tossing some aside without even opening them.

"At the very least ye can try not to toss around at the office Warren. I'm tired of your staff giving me pitying looks every time yer cavortin' wit' one of yer secretaries."

"We aren't discussing this Leliana. If you don't like it stop coming to my office."

"I wouldn't have t' if ye were on time fer things that didn't directly involve ye. We're going t' be late."

"Fine, well get going to this...whatever it is of yours once I've checked the rest of this mail."

"Warren!"

Her tone was sharp but he merely glanced at her dismissively before opening a larger envelope. Pulling out the contents he examined them for a minute. His face paled suddenly as he shoved the papers back in the envelope. Whipping around he grabbed her firmly by the forearm and began marching her towards the office door as he pulled out his cell phone.

"Call the college and tell them to reschedule our appearance. Get back in the car and go straight home and STAY. THERE."

Warren's tone was sharper than usual and despite yanking out of his grip on her arm she didn't argue. Letting him guide her to the elevator and practically shove her inside before making a call on his phone as the doors shut. She was greeted at the garage by the driver and escorted into the car before being quickly whisked home. She had called the college on the ride and apologized, informing them that an emergency had suddenly come up and that she and the Senator wouldn't be able to make it. Without much information to go on the college wasn't pleased. But Dr. Shane had done so much for them that they were willing to wait and reschedule.

The front door to the manor swung open suddenly and Dr. Shane gave a start as she whirled around to see Warren striding in, leaving the door open behind him, a tall man she had never met before following silently behind. He was looking down at his phone and said nothing to his wife as he entered. With an exasperated sound she stomped a foot.

"Warren! What the bloody hell is going on! And who is this!"

She gestured towards the stranger as Warren scoffed and handed her the envelope from earlier. Taking it she opened it and pulled out what was inside. Her hands trembled. There was a stack of photos, all of her. At the college, the gym, her favorite coffee shop. Even one of her napping in the manor library. With it was a letter. A threat against her life if Warren continued pushing his latest legislation. The photos were merely proof they knew where she was and could get to her. Her hands trembled as she placed everything back in the folder and sat it down on the table. She was irate. Why was her life in danger for Warren's politics. Especially if anyone who knew anything would know that Warren could care less what happened to her.

"Well what are you going to do about this Warren?

"I've already done it. I got you a personal bodyguard. Head of my Security."

Leliana merely glanced incredulously between her husband who was already preparing to head back to work and the stranger behind him. Her lips pressed in a firm line as she turned on her heel and stormed off towards the library.

"I bloody think NOT!"

"Then it's a good thing I didn't ask what you think. You're my wife, your job is to do what I say not think."

Leliana uttered a parting curse in Irish and vanished into the library with a thunderous slam of the door as Warren turned to go addressing the man he'd brought in only briefly.

"Keep her alive. Only call me if it's important."

With only those bare minimal instructions he headed off, shutting the door behind him.
