There's one day of 2001 left where I am...
I tend to look back infrequently, but milestones encourage it. I had a very reflective day when I turned 30 (gee, it feels like yesterday) but New Year's doesn't always bring on the urge to make resolutions...
This year, so much has changed. Without so much as moving to a new office, work has changed immeasurably: my best friends have moved on, a new boss has facilitated great professional growth but in exchange for more demands on me, and we have hired soooo many new people. I went into the year thinking I was "In love" with somebody I'd known for years, now I sit online and wonder at the way that derailed. I've seen the mortality of my parents. I've seen the horror of September 11 and tried to explain that to my offspring. Even winter is strange this year in this part of the world...
Looking back, I cannot help but think I have learned a great deal, grown some, hurt some, lost some, and stumbled onto a new community I do thoroughly enjoy. I talk to people in Australia, and Canada. I've met and flirted with people from my own backyard I'd never have run across them in real time. I have new friends in Great Britain, New York, California, and Florida, the armpit of Texas, and atop a mountain.... and several who I have no idea where they are at all.
I have known, previously, that community is not a geographical term any longer, but you have reinforced that tenet here, and imprinted yourselves on my spirit. So, the title is not quite right, for it is not out with the old, it is,
"Thank you, all, for the new."
Hope your coming year is good to you. Prosper, and thrive.
