I can't find the old thread for temporary absences so here's another one.

I'm away from today, Friday 1st May, returning on Tuesday 5th May.

Don't do anything I wouldn't do.

That only leaves Morris Dancing and anything that frightens the horses. Morris Dancing is included in "frightens the horses".

If I just avoid those horses all together, may I do whatever I please?

Have a splendid holiday, Ogg. My last workation was top drawer, to be archaic.

Before my ink blot test today, I read your post. Thinking of your recently affected southern accent, work stations, "drawer", and reading "southern" for "archaic", I give you this, just lifted from the following site, after Googling "southern speak drawer":

http://www.matchdoctor.com/blog_98958/Draw_or_Drawer.html

It's amazing how many people I come in contact with who pronounce these two words exactly the same way. In the cabinet business, both words are used often. Unless it's used in a sentence where the meaning is obvious...
I find myself asking people "Did you say DRAW or DRAWER?"
Just to be on the safe side, I'll 'correct' what I heard.

For example...
Customer: "I want a draw over every door"
Me: "You want a drawer over every door?"
Customer: "yes, that's what I said"
Me: "Well no.. you SAID you want a draw you didn't say you wanted a drawer... there IS a difference.

At that point I usually expect a look from them like a deer blinded by my headlamps!

So I try to change the subject.

Me: "Did you select hardware yet? I have this wonderful catalog I keep in the top drawer"

My observation is I find the people who are from the New York area are the most guilty of this.

But as they say... YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)

Okay, so maybe it's true what they say, that non sequiturs are a symptom of mental illness. ;)

You ought to try and read when I'm in my Pukka Sahib mode. :D

Og is away again

From tomorrow, Sunday, evening I'll be missing for a week.

We're off to Normandy, again. We were there in October but this is one of three low cost holidays this year courtesy of one of our UK popular newspapers. (No, I didn't buy it for the Page 3 girls!)

This time among other sights we're going to visit Utah and Omaha beaches. I did the UK and Canadian beaches in October.

The size of the cemeteries in Normandy is a strong reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedoms.

Soon after we return from France we're going to South Wales for a week. Later in the year we're going to Yorkshire hunting my wife's ancestors and then a week in Paris.

Now that we are both retired travelling is possible. However all four holidays added together cost less than a trip to Florida for a week. Exchange rates and fuel surcharges make a big difference.
