Ok, so no "Take me to your leader" threats or anal probing of any kind have actually happened but it's true, poor Tiggs has fallen victim to a case of bad postal service... which in a way can be as scary as being abducted by aliens. LOL Her phone was shut off due to US West/Quest and the USPS being slow. They claim they haven't received payment so they cut her off. She's doing good though, working on new stories for everyone's enjoyment... I think her next one should be titled "Gangbang with the mailman and the phone company" since she basically fucked up the ass already. LOL

Anyway, since they are charging her a small fortune to turn her service back on, we don't know how long it will be before she's back among the "Dial up modem" living.
She asked me to tell everyone who cares that she'll be back soon.

Funny, they usually don't cut service until they've given you several warnings for non-payment, right? Maybe the problem is she sent her check addressed to US MIDWest instead of US West? Probably confused the hell out of them, coming from Nebraska, a Western state. :)
 
Yeah Cheyenne, it is pretty funny considering she did get one warning, called and made payment arangements, sent the money and they still shut her off. It's even more funny considering she's my emergency contact person and labor coach and I'm in midst of a high risk pregnancy. I'm laughing hysterically at how nice and generous the people US West really are.

Ezzie, that was "funny" as in "odd" or "strange", not as in "ha ha". It didn't sound right that one payment got lost in the mail and the phone was immediately turned off. It normally takes quite a bit to get to that point, more than one warning, more than one missed payment. Remember, US West is a business, they don't exist to be "nice" or "generous." That said, I hope Tiggs gets her bills paid and her phone back on, soon.

Did she try telling the phone company about how she's your emergency contact person and what condition you're in? Don't know if it will help any, but it couldn't hurt. You may find a sympathetic woman who has been pregnant before herself to listen and help.

Phone companies could care less about medical emergencies as long as they get their money. US West is infamous for screwing people over, I've had it done to me on more than one occasion and that was after I sent the bill ON TIME and THEY failed to add it to their system. And with Quest and US West merging, things are really screwed up. One final note, they did receive Tiggs' payment 2 days later than the original arrangmemts called for but that was courtesy of the USPS because to send something from Omaha, Nebraska to Des Moines, Iowa generally takes 2 days, not the 6 it took to get her phone bill there. Her bill is paid, it's not a matter of that, it's a matter of them charging her $75.00 for reconnection plus a large deposit which she simply can't afford at this time. 'Nuff said...

Just out of curiousity, did it take 6 days to get there, or did it take 6 days for them to process? Most companies that receive payments in the mail don't process payments the same day they receive them. The accounting department for the company I just left took anywhere from 10 days to 3 weeks to process payments depending on such things as the volume of business for that time of year and just how many people were on vacation at any given time. Regardless, waiting til the last minute and then mailing something like that is just asking for trouble.

Btw, my phone company has local offices where I can pay the bill in person and have it credited to the account immediately. I can also make payments over the phone and (YAY! The way everything should be done...) online! They only thing I have to write a check for these days is the damn electric bill... And that's just because those fuckers at Duquesne Light are such backward ass fucks...

Why should they care? They're a business and their business is making money. If people aren't going to abide by the terms of the service agreement, what exactly are they supposed to do?

Phone service is pretty fucking cheap. I pay less than $12 a month for local access, and something tells me that if I were involved in a medical emergency that required I have a phone, I'd find a damn way to come up with $12 a month.... Christ, they pay more than that for a pint of blood. Now, if Tiggs is sitting there running up huge long distance bills and she can't afford to pay them, then that's her fault and not the phone companies.

That's the problem with this world, no one wants to take responsibility for their actions. The phone company isn't out to get anyone. They honestly don't give a flying fuck about any of this. Pay your bills on time and it won't be a problem.... I think that's what Cheyenne was hinting at.
 
Wow, i wish my basic service was only $12.00, that is cheap.. i think i'm going to complain to my phone company..damn it..

Now, when you add in Caller ID and all that "non-basic crap" and the hour long phone calls my wife makes to her mother twice a week and blah, blah, blah... Then the bill goes up... But even our worst months are only $40 or $50.

But if I'd get rid of all the extra crap and shut off the long distance, then I'd only pay $12. Of course, then I'd also have one pissed off wife to deal with.... So I guess that's not gonna happen.

My telephone service is $9.95 a month for basic service.
I have an unpublished number which cost $2.95 extra.
And with the extra calls from being on the Webtv my bill is usually less than $20.00 a month.

You should check into it,you might be able to get a deal.I had to switch companys to get mine.
 
Ok, I'm tired of debating this just so people could know where Tiggs had run off too. We've already established the fact that I was telling people what happened to her at HER request, not so she could be made out to be someone who slacked off and didn't pay her phone bill. Now, as for Lasher's comments... I've heard other people say that basic service is really cheap for them, well, here it's not. Basic service with nothing fancy on the line runs about $18.99 a month, when you start adding all the taxes and 911 access charges and all the other stuff they throw on (Which you can do nothing about) the phone bill runs about $28.00 per month.

6 Days to get to US West: Not 6 days to process. They have special envelopes to send "Late payments" in. They are color coded envelopes, late pays are tagged with a red bar across the top to signify that this payment is late, process immedietly.

Since Tiggs just moved into her new place about 2 months ago, she was making payments on the inital hook up charge of $100.00, that adds an additional $25.00 per month until it's paid off.

Regarding medical emergencies: I did not say that the phone company should care because as I said earlier, all they want is their money. I was simply responding to Cheyenne's question asking if Tiggs had talked to them and made them aware of the situation. I did not once say "Poor me poor me turn on her phone because it's risking my health." I have a backup plan if something goes wrong and Tiggs knows what that is.

Tiggs' long distance bills: First off, she doesn't have long distance service on her line, they wanted a deposit for that as well. And come to find out that US West charges, if memory serves, $3.00 to NOT have long distance. So it's not a case of her running up huge bills.

And in closing, US West/Quest pretty much owns a monopoly on phone service in Omaha. We have one other company that's new to the area but is not available in all areas yet. Including the one Tiggs lives in so she's basically stuck with US West for now.

I'm not being rude or bitchy, I'm just laying out the facts as I have them. If I've come across as mean or snotty then just understand that I'm on edge in my real life and don't want to watch my best friend get bashed for something she tried to take control over and lost due to big company mistakes... yes, I blame the company... sue me.

Even though I mostly blame US West, I also blame Tiggs and the USPS. All 3 elements have a share of the blame in this.



And Lasher,about payment agencies: They do have agencies that will let you pay there instead of sending the bill in but they require a credit card which is something Tiggie doesn't have. I'm sure tons of people love US West and I'm sure that they are a good company most of the time and things like this happen. But when it's happened to you even though you know you've done everything possible to avoid it, you'd become a little irate too. Anyway, my hormones and I will go back to bed now. LOL

Just for all those who have yet to see this.

You may want to check out the latest MSN Messenger Beta version.

I use the call facility to "phone" the USA from England, it uses the internet so I only pay for my local call access.

I have spoken to friends in the USA and they now have the same Beta version running on their computers, they can use it to call internally within the USA and Canada long distance at no extra cost other than the computer access.

Have a look at it and maybe cut down your own phone bills.

You can get it as a download from msn.com or msn.co.uk etc.
