He posted a cryptic note several days ago that he would be going away.

Whilst many here don't see eye-to-eye with his outbursts, he's still a 'member of the club'. I PM'd him a few days ago to ask if he was OK, he was in hospital recently with a serious illness. Not heard a word.

It's an odd season for him to go AWOL - I don't believe he's one of the Extreme Right Alt's - I'm hoping he's on that long cruise, without Internet.

If you're around, obnoxious one, say 'Hi', we've had to resort to arguing between ourselves.

I've actually had a few people contact me via eXcessica that he hasn't been sending out their books... which concerned me. I emailed, but no response.

Even hypocrites deserve some consideration. You know what I hope for him? I hope that something, or someone, has finally made him happy-- so happy that he never has to come back here.

I hope his illness is nothing too serious and he's posting again soon. My blood pressure has been dangerously low during his absence.

I agree. And I hope Santa Claus remembers me this year, after decades of forgetfulness.

We should all rest assured that if Ami is having medical problems, he will be getting the best care in the world, assuming he's still in the USA, and not in some backwards third world slum like Canada or France.

Paid for by Medicare.

Paid for by Medicare.

OMG! Ami is sucking on the tit of big government? My respect for the man and his principals has just gone down the toilet. I was assuming he would be paying out-of-pocket for the best care available, since that's the philosophy he espouses.

I hadn't noticed his post. (Now I'll have to go and look for it.)

Ami and I don't always see eye to eye but I do respect him both as a person and for the fact that he stands by what he believes.

I do hope he is well and that he returns.

Actually, it's more like he dances around what he believes, depending on what point he's trying to make. But since he's not here to do the dancing, I suppose I should just shut up.

Ami - we really do miss you. Best wishes!

It was a single sentence in one of his long posts on a political subject about 2 - 3 weeks ago. I remember it, haven't been able to find it.

Speak for yourself.

Seriously. Speaking for myself I don't miss him, I love not seeing him here.

But if you had to choose between him and Le Jac....?

At least Ami has a sense of humour and of the ridiculous... :D

Just adding my get better soon wishes to the thread.

I'd choose le jac, actually. He doesn't attack an entire group of people in order to insult one person, a technique I find despicable. Ami has a way of (attempting to) reducing his opponents to non-entities, who mean nothing more than an ant in the hill. He acts as if I, or you, are simply a representative of some monolithic set of incorrect, and therefore evil, ideologies.

he has no sense of humour that I've ever noticed-- or if that's what he thinks is funny, his sense of humor just doesn't make me laugh.

But-- I don't have to choose between them, I have them both on ignore.

Thank you, for the most part, for the courteous concern, is is appreciated.

I have been incapacitated for the better part of a month with Pneumonia in one lung and have not even turned the computer on in several weeks, today is the first time.

The medical facilities I have utiized, in the United States, are indeed, state of the art facilities and procedures, all of which I have been paying for via insurance programs for forty years, thank you.

Americans have fought and killed each other as Colonist's when we were mainly Englishmen, and again in the 1860's, over slavery, when it was brother against brother.

We are a passionate people and are about to go to war with each other again over the attempted imposition of socialism on a free society, an issue over which there is no debate, no compromise; one is either free or slave and there is no middle ground and each of you need to take a side and defend it.

There are no niceties here, I am a free man, in a free nation; that freedom earned and protected by free men. Attempting to remove my freedom will earn you a bullet between your eyes with no questions asked before or after.

Passion is a good thing. Nourish it.

(PS, writing this brought about my first cigarette in over a month, I had gone 'cold turkey' from two packs a day to zero, now see what you've done?)

Well... I'm pleased you recovered.

Stop smoking!

Once more you make the case better than any of us.

I've been thinking about how slavery occurs. According to conventional wisdom, you simply drive your boat up to the beach, and grab people on holiday at the shore. Kunta Kinte was likely on his surf-board when he was captured.

But I suspect the business of slave-catching was infinitely easier than chasing vacationers around their resorts. The slavers likely erected kiosks at the market, and sold life in the Americas like Peruna and snakeoil in later times. Folks probably camped on the beach awaiting the next boat to paradise.

Or, more likely, their leaders got them to thinking about the social debts they owed to the tribe's disadvantaged, they werent paying their fair-share of maize and monkey meat, and maybe the tribe's economic health was imperiled, or whatever. But they got accustomed to the idea of being chattel, pulling the wagon others rode in, and the feel of the whip on their backs.
