Just got home from 5 days with one of my best friends traveling in the South and went to the Memphis In May festival.
I took the bus to Arkansas to her house, stayed a couple days and then we drove to Memphis for the festival. We didn't make it Friday, went to the track for Coronas and food since it was Cinco De Mayo. Kind of regret not seeing Snoop Dog at the festival that night, but we did have fun.
Saturday we started out early, had poutine at the Kooky Canuck then went to the car to have a beer instead of paying $5 a can in the festival, a couple 6 packs and 2 bottle of Arkansas moonshine later we went into the festival, walked around a bit, saw Drive By Truckers, was going to stay for Kings Of Leon but neither one of us was feeling it so we left.
Yesterday we did better. NO booze at all
We had set in stone plans, we were going to see Ben Harper from the rail. So when the gates opened at 1 we went in and right to the stage he was playing at.
We got to see Marcella and Her Lovers(they were good), Ani DiFranco(she was amazing!) Ziggy Marley(amazing and not too hard on the eyes, and neither were his 2 women singers) then at 7:15 Ben Harper! So yeah I stood for 6+ hours to see Ben, but he was pretty amazing too!
After that we went to get something to eat, BBQ nachos and chicken on a stick, we later saw gator on a stick and were sad we had only gotten chicken.
My friend wanted to see Soundgarden so we went to that stage but sat far back so we could just sit/lay and relax. Bush was still playing and they were good. Soundgarden were ok, Chris Cornell is not my style at all but the music was nice.
In bed by 1 am, up at 6 and drove me home. What a nice 5 days! Can't wait to do it again and again!
AND now I have a few ideas of a festival setting for a story so it's all good.
