Osama... Obama... President

Well, the whole black liberal thing is enough of a hurdle to overcome.

His name is just a minor hump compared to that.

I'm not too sure he can be elected - not because he's black but because of his name.
The letters that make the difference between the names of the candidate-intent and the living devil say it all about politics -- BS.

I don't think he has much chance of winning, or of even getting the nomination. Hopefully, he will have enough sense not to claim his name was the cause of it.

Frankly, I don't think his name is a burden. His burden is Zero support in the west.

He has support here, and I'm in the west...

and even my father, who probably hasn't voted or been ready to vote Democrat since they shot Bobby, is curious and positive minded about him.

he does have a shot...and I can't think of anyone out there I would support more.

I don't think his name is going to be that big of an issue, except with people who wouldn't vote for him anyhow.

He's being given the Rockstar treatment in the press, and people will pick up on that and disconnect him from the two rather ominous names.

I honestly predict that he'll eventually announce he's going to pass on '08 and continue to serve the people of Illinois. He has too many factors against him. Besides those already mentioned, his lack of experience will hurt him - and the Clinton machine will grind him under if Hillary moves forward.

I saw a news headline as I was clickin through stuffs, I had to go back and look.

I thought it said:

"Osama makes a run at a white horse"

I thought it meant Osama was strung out on heroin or sumpthin.

Obama has My support.

I think he'll make a good showing. I don't think he is a really serious presidential candidate for 2008, but he is looking to 2012 or 2016. Or, he might have his mind on a VP nomination. However he comes out, Obama is certainly somebody to watch in the future.

What was it Ted Kennedy called him? Obama Osama or something like that?

I don't think he'll make it this time around. IMO his biggest hurdle will be his inexperience. Give him a couple of terms in the Senate and I think he'll have a strong enough record to make a run with.

A lot of people like him, but that's mainly based on his charisma and not knowing much about him. That, and a lot of people aren't thrilled with Hillary, and he has potent name recognition.

Personally, I like Edwards. I don't dislike Obama, but I feel Edwards is a bit more honest and likable.

Obama's real test will be when he has to start talking about what he stands for. His big-government stance will turn off many of the people who like his "fresh face" appeal but don't yet know what a socialist he is......Carney

It's all about what you have to compare it to. ;)

Yeah. But to those of us who observe America from the outside it's a rather odd perspective.

Edwards has been around for a while, and my opinion of him is mainly based on his charisma, too. In spite of the '04 campaign spotlight & his record in the Senate, I still don't know a whole lot about him.

Hell, I met the man. Spoke with him (for about 30 seconds) and a couple of his aides (for about two hours) about IDEA Reauthorization several years ago ... and I still just kinda feel like, "Oh, he's nice."

Not a damned thing stirring about the man. That being said, if he becomes the Democratic candidate, I will vote for him. I'd really rather be voting FOR someone this time around ... instead of just AGAINST their opposition.

I'm with you on Edwards. I was for him last election, but he didn't win the Dem primary. I loathe John Kerry, but I'll forgive Edwards the mis step of joining him if Edwards stays true to himself this go-round.

bumping for the same reason... it's interesting to see the things that were said in the beginning. Gonna bump one or two more.
