Oregon Indian Tribe Mey Be First to Legalize Same Sex Marriage

I'm not surprised.

The little bit I know about Native American and other cultures indicates that they were generally much more accepting of an individuals path. It had to do with their spirituality where all things were interconnected to the Creator. As such, the way that Creator guided a person was also sacred. Here in Alaska I can still see a lot of this influence in the way the Native Alaskan people raise their children and interact with others (and I have written before about how the Polynesian people historically honored transgendered people) Unfortunately, western European influence has radically altered these cultures and now as a people they are struggling in many ways to find some balance between the old ways and modern ways.
