Ok. This afternoon my girlfriend kneed me by accident and I got a very small cut on my lip. It dried up, but I guess it was still a little open. Anyway, I went down on her about an hour or so, maybe a little more later. After, she thought and got scared, what if, she might of gotten genital herpes.

Questions

I have never had a cold sore. What are the chances of me having oral herpes if I haven't had one in my life. (Even when I was little)

How/Where can I get tested?

Thanks.

If you carry the virus, occasionally people do and don't know it, it is only transmissable when you have an outbreak. Generally you have warning (tingling, burning, itching) before the lesion actually comes out (puffy red with grey/white blisters that get crusty).

Your girlfriend should be fine.

Oh weed that's the best news I have heard all day. Thank you so much. So I could of only transmitted it (most likely) at the time I was having the outbreak. So if by any chance a little bit of blood got into her, she should be fine?

Long as you don't have HIV or hepatitis......but don't get too caught up in stuff. If you've both had other partners, you both go to a doc or clinic, get some testing, then you can eat and whatever without worrying.

Better to be at ease and truly enjoy yourselves.

Sorry,
Not quite right.

Even if you've never had an outbreak,
you could still have teh virus.

If you have the virus but dont curently have an outbreak
there is still a very small chance of transmitting it.
Its called assomtive or something shedding, and can occur even when the virus is dormant. But as I say very very low probability.

But the good news is that oral and genital herpes are
too different strains, and whiles its possible to get
oral herpes on ur genitals its only a very small chance.

The bottom line is if u have an outbreak, don't kiss any part
of your SO, and wash your hands if you touch your mouth.
The rest of the time you have to get on with life as best you can.

Sorry to be depressing.

That's not depressing because I definitly have not had an outbreak and have never had one in my entire life. Also, you said the chances are very very very slim and I don't even know if any blood got into her.

I have read this thread about 4 times..

It has me completly confused.

Phil, why are you worried about giving her herpes? It isn't herpes you have on your face.. it's a cut from her kneeing you, right?

I heard somewhere that blood could transmit herpes, thats why. I'm pretty sure that is not true though. That's why I'm confused as well :p

I don't whether theres blood or not makes a difference
to transfering it. As the virus lives in the flakes of skin.
BUT if shes got a cut or cracked lips or whatever
that increases her chances of getting it, if you had it.
Skin is our natural protection against bugs :)

Anyway if you've never had an ob its unlikely you've got the
damn thing anyway, esp if no one else in your immediate
family (mother/father/ sister/brother) have got it.
A lot of oral herpes are caught from adult kissing childen/babies.
Hence it travels though the generations.

Anyway as long as you have'nt got an outbreak,
ur 99.9999% unlikely to transfer it.

I do have oral herpes, though I haven't had an outbreak in years. I think you are being a bit paranoid, if you've never had an ob, personally.

Since it can lay dormant for years, the only way you can test for it is during an outbreak. It was a cut, not a herpes sore, so quit worrying.
