Opinions on words

Whenever I'm writing a story, I like to use at least two, maybe three words for pussy, so that I don't get repetitive. I'm having a bit of trouble at the moment, because I need to find synonyms for pussy. Admittedly not difficult, but I need some which won't get laughed at, are universal and fit neatly into stories.

Pudenda and cooch appear to be solely English slang words and tend to confuse Americans, so I wanted to know what other authors used in their writing.

I'm American and I've heard both of those terms. Pudenda is actually Latin so pudendum would be the singular. I've mostly heard coochie rather than cooch, but I think the meaning would be clear either way.

I don't think, however that either word is terribly erotic, and it would seem very unusual to hear either word from a third person narrator.

Variety for the sake of variety isn't always a good idea.

Each person, and by extension, each character and the narrator, has one favored term for the genitals of each sex. The odd person or two might have two equally favored terms, but for the most part everyone has to consciously think of using alternate terms.

You should choose the terms that each character (and the narrator) use for the various baody parts and stick to those terms for the appropriate characters throughout a story.

Alternate terms shouldn't be hard to find (Omni posted a pretty extensive list ) just watch the various conversations on the general board and you'll see dozens of variations.

Erotic Synonyms

I find that if I have to say "pussy" more than once per paragraph, then I need a rewrite. I call it pussy or her sex. I will occasionally refer to it as a cunt or a vagina depending on the story.

For a guy, it's cock and dick. Sometimes erection, hardon, boner, or penis. I keep these words consistent through the story because all of these words are slang and moving from one slang vernacular to another is jarring to the reader.

In porn, these words are sort of like pronouns.

I don't like to have more than 2 or three similar words for pussy in a story as it tends to have several different slants if I use different types of words. I did use pussy, pudenda and cooch, but I've found through this board that in the USA, pudenda is pudendum and an anatomical term, and cooch is coochie and not often used. So I'm looking for some more words with the same kind of feel as pussy (I'm sure I should rephrase that). Quim's good, any other thoughts?

It sounds just plain disgusting to me. "Cunt" is a very crass word and, in my opinion, should be used that way. When you use it to make up your own adjective (cuntal), it seems like you're trying to elevate it to a different plane of connotation, like it's vaguely literary.

Cunt

This word has a huge number of feminist and post-feminist literature devoted to it - it's one of the last taboo words -- dedinitely not PC.
In British English, I'd say it's rated higher than "fuck" in the vulgarity ratings. Is that true in the States? People use it in movies and
TV far less than "fuck".
I was really surprised when I frist moved to the States that "you cunt" was a term of abuse applied to women, wheras it's pretty much exclusively applied to men in Britain.
Cunts have a number of moving parts -- my objection to the was its used in a lot of stories is that it is a lazy word for the hole thing -- there's more to a cunt than meets the eye.
But of course in dialogue it can be appropriate.
