Alright you all, I need your opinion on something. Yes I am asking for advice and am prepared to take your thoughts on it. :p

A few nights ago my best friend was walking me home from his place. It was late and he always makes sure I get home safely. *Rob* is a gay black man.

We crossed the street and at the same time the Safety officer did the same on the next block. We all jay walked. The officer walked in front of us to the door of my building and used his key to let us in. He blocked the door way. I even had my key out. He would not let us pass until we answered his question. He wanted to know who Rob was, what he was doing with me and what his business was there. I had spoken to the officer earlier in the night as well about him being in the rain patrolling the street.

I was offended by that. I answered the man's questions and led the way through the door and went up the back stairs.

Even Rob thinks the whole thing is odd. Its my opinion that the officer was racial profiling. I do not think he would have had that voice tone or those questions if Rob was a woman or white.

Anyone else?

I guess it would depend where you live? Is this a college dorm? Why don't you just ask the guy what his concern was?

Small rural town which is predominantly white. He was the a Safety officer which was patroling, on duty. Obviously he was concerned about who was entering the building.

It just struck me as odd. Even Rob couldn't figure it out. Maybe I am just sensitive about these things but nothing odds up here for me. I am not sure if I should talk to the Safety people about it or not.

Ug.

Sounds very strange......are you sure this guy doesn't want you for himself

I think he was looking out for you. You are free to think whatever you like. Given the news these days, I am most happy you arrived safe .

You know someone suggested that to me. Earlier in the night the guard was out in the rain walking the street. I said that I was sorry he had to be out in the rain and thank you for being on duty. I thought I was just being friendly...perhaps later showing up with a person of color bothered him.

Let us hope I do not have a pyschotic Safety guy after me.

Its just a block down the street but Rob knows how strong I am, lol.

Thank you though. I am glad he was there but how it went down bothers me. Proving something of this nature isn't easy and can create a lot of problems.
