OPEN ^^^Blue Moon Cafe^^^OPEN

Thanks, Mari.
We've been trying to do the mundane each day
until we can get the wind back in our sails.
And there is such a huge group of friends
that there is always some love to spread around,
and nobody has had to feel alone with it.

I AM, however ready for spring.
This snow yesterday is NOT
what I was hoping for.
But i guess this time of year
it can't last long.

What have you been up to?

It's been really springlike here today and yesterday.
I've managed to fit in a few walks and am determined to enjoy life not just work work work!

I always have good intentions to go swimming regularly.
Now the weather is beginning to change, I'm determined to undertake a more "physical" hobby - although I actually enjoy my work and writing - a balance is necessary I think.

Been visiting family lately - still on-gong probs/concerns there.
But between phone calls and visits, I feel I'm able to do "my bit" even from a distance.

As ever ... life is busy ... but good.
I'm lucky in both my friends and family.
Blessings all round.

I brush the quickly melting snow from the front steps, noting with some curiosity the single set of petite footprints in the white blanket. The Cafe was dim, but as my eyes adjusted to the contrast, I could make out a small quiet figure sequestered at the back near the restrooms. She didn't look up, and I had no need to disturb her. Peace and quiet is one of our favorite dishes here at the Blue Moon.

I look around, anxiously detailing the agenda for the coming spring sweep. It would be time to restock the food stores, replace the broken glasses and dishes, clean all the surfaces, and maybe rearrange some things to give it a fresh look. I couldn't wait to get the hot tub going out back on the deck, and lay out the chaises for sunning. But today was not the day, so I set my daydreams aside, and set about to inventory the liquor shelves for Friday's order.

As I squatted to see the lower cabinet in the muted light, I could feel her presence, closer than before. It startled me nonetheless to see her small feet beside me, and I gazed up at her face, luminous but faintly sad. It was as if all the light in the room had been drawn into her understated countenance. She smiled wanly, and I wanted to take her face in my hands and stroke her, but it was all I could do to muster a gentle "Hi there" as I rose to tower above her small frame. She nodded silently. I arched an eyebrow as if to ask, but I wasn't sure of the question.

Neither of us spoke, silently considering the other, offering nothing in the way of explanation for our sudden proximity. There was something intoxicating about her presence, and I wanted to know more, but felt suddenly juvenile and awkward, quite ironic considering my advantage in both size and age. She seemed troubled but not unsettled, and after many moments of reciprocal survey, I asked if she'd like a drink.

She seemed not to understand my question, and I held up a glass and began to speak slowly and loudly, in that futile way one tries to talk to a deaf person. "D...r...i...n...k...?" I drew it out, and she finally smiled at the silliness of it, and nodded toward the glass in my hand. We gestured our way to a simple rum and coke decision, and as I began to pour, she quietly sidled up to me, laying her warm head upon my arm, and holding on as if she had been treading water for a long time and suddenly had found a floating log to rest against.

She took her drink silently back to her booth, and rested with her liquid solace. I went about tidying up, and placing fresh flowers in anticipation of others returning to the Blue Moon.

Boy, this place has gotten really dusty.
But spring is here, and it's time to
freshen things up.

Perhaps I can hang out for a while
and see if anyone stops in.
