If you'd like an idea of my motivation, I've a thread in the Author's Hangout that ought to be more than enough background.
Is there another thread somewhere in here open to posting excerpts, snippets, teasers, problem paragraphs, etc? Or is it okay if I start one here? Of course I might start with some of my stuff and anyone else is free to do the same. Maybe like a training wheels thread for dealing with some bit of shyness, mixed feelings about again posting full-length stories on Literotica.

But I can use it for this footnote.

So I'm trying to get back in the swing of finishing things. Used a random selection method to pick a story to stay with until finished. So a couple hours ago I decided to read from top to bottom, see how it fit & flowed, and I was like, "man this is just awful. There is not even a story here. Gotta start all over." But then a little while ago I went back to it and reading it to see where to start, I was, "oh wait, no, don't touch a thing. It might just need a little touching up."

Y'know?

Hi, I saw your comment on the other thread and it seemed like you were doing okay, so I just left it alone. Here I feel like briefly commenting on what you said. So I guess the random selection method is one way of picking them. (How many of these do you have going out there, if I may ask?) Generally I prefer to work on the one closest to being finished and the maybe the second one beyond that if I need a change of pace. (Or maybe I just do something else.)

Reading again from the top down is not a bad idea if you have a sticking point near the middle or even at the end. If the first fifty percent or so seems to be working, then that is usually a good sign. There may then be more that has to be added in the middle or, once in a while, a cut (an "info dump) has to be taken out. I don't remember ever changing my overall opinion too drastically during that process. I knew I had a reliably interesting character in my two most recent stories here (I had used her before, including on other sites), so that helped me get them done.

You still seem somewhat troubled by indecision as if you can't figure out if you like your own work or not.

Yeah it's kind of an issue (never-ending, across-the-board) probably best discussed in a different venue.

Do you mean you'd rather discuss it with people you know in real life rather than with those you may encounter online, such as these boards obviously? In my case, the handful of family members I still have know little or probably don't care about what I'm doing here. I admit I do have a therapist, who is nice enough, but she is also basically clueless about writing issues (I do mention them in a rather broad or vague way).

I mean the issue is more psychological that probably isn't appropriate discussing on a Story Feedback Forum.
Although it does play into the general theme of doubts, uncertainties, hesitation, knuckling down to finish projects. Multiple interests in constant competition for attention (writing erotic literature being one of the biggies), yet accomplishing little in any of them. There is a term for this precidament but the word eludes recollection just now.

Okay, that's clearer. I'm reluctant to give you specific advice because - well, it's hard to know what is appropriate. You are correct in that the Story Feedback forum mostly concentrates on finished, existing, not proposed, stories. As for psychological issues in general, probably the whole site is not a good place for that.

I just saw that you posted something on the Author's Hangout, which I think is a recent message. Let me see what you've got there.
