Story Background:

• Economic woes, old and new wars both, and continuing environmental destruction issues combined to lead to what is simply known as The Collapse.
• Across the world, populations in nearly every nation rose up against their oppressors, whether domestic or foreign. At the same time, militant groups took control of vast stretches of territory. In some places, thousands -- even tens of thousands -- were killed for being the wrong color, religion, or economic status.
• On the 4th of July, 2020, riots in the United States led to a declaration of Martial Law. Across the country, Americans fought Americans in the Second Civil War.
• By Christmas 2024, the country was in total mayhem.
• In April 2025, Brett and Brantley Tyner -- a brother-sister pair on the verge of starvation from outside Butte, Montana -- were forced to the road, travelling with trusted friends in an effort to find the resources they needed to survive.
• With them from the start were Lee Kim, who had served under Brett in the US Army; Julio Ramirez, who had played sports with Brett in High School; and Jade Short (whose description is pending.)
• Brett once referred to the five's need to work together to survive as being like the fingers of one hand, and -- while it isn't spoken often -- the name "The Five Fingers" stuck.
• For 2 years, they have wandered the state of Montana, only occasionally reaching or crossing its borders into Canada or Idaho.
• In June 2027, Victor Green joined them. (He is a relative to one of the Five Fingers, though which hasn't been determined yet.)

Current Situation:

• Date: Late July 2027, 7 years after The Collapse.
• Location of the Five Fingers: Flathead National Forest, NE of Missoula, Montana.
• Provisions: Food nearly gone; ammunition nearly gone; weapons in disrepair (4 working, including a semi-automatic AK-47, 12 gauge shotgun, semi-automatic Glock, and a .45 caliber revolver; and 6 not working or depleted of ammunition); medical supplies nearly depleted; and more.
• Moral: Low

Description:

• Age: 32 (born 1 April 1995)
• Height: 6'0"
• Weight: 195#; muscular.
• Eyes: Hazel
• Hair: Light brunette (with natural blonde highlights that become more noticeable in the summer).
• Scars: Numerous (to be explained later).

Personality:

• Serious, thoughtful, calculating.
• A great leader; great tactician, relative to others at least.
• Protective of those in his charge, particularly his sister, Brantley, for whom he would kill every man, woman, and child on the planet if that was necessary to keep her safe.

Relationship to the other Characters:

• Brett is the self appointed leader of the group, commonly referred to as "The Five Fingers:
  • Brantley Tyner: her brother and incestuous lover.
  • Julio Ramirez: his friend, school mate, and fellow athlete.
  • Lee Kim: his US Army trainer when the Collapse occurred.
  • Jade Short: her friend via Jade's friendship with Brantley.
• Victor Green (deceased, see the last paragraphs of this post: Cousin to Julio and former member of The Five Fingers.

Background:

• 1 May 1995: Born to a ranching family near Butte, Montana.
• 1 May 2013: On the day of his 18th birthday, joined the US Army to get away from his abusive father.
• May 2020: As the US follows in the foot steps of so many other countries and heads toward uprising and civil war, Brett deserts the Army and returns home.
• 4 July 2020: With the President's declaration of Martial Law, Brett is sentenced to death as a deserter. He hides in the hills near the family home, coming down to help them when they need it.
• 18 March 2022: Under pressure from powerful forces within the State's National Guard, business, political, and finance interests, the Governor declares his state a sovereign nation, the Montana Republic. The newly restructured Montana National Guard offers Brett a commission, which he takes.
• April 2027: Brett's Five Fingers adds one more, Victor Green (Julio's cousin). Brett senses Victor's desire to usurp him quickly in their relationship and kills him just 3 months later.
• Late July 2027: The role play begins.
