"It was once said that the cherry blossums recieved their beautiful colors because an emperor once burried a dead soldier killed in battle under each tree back in the old days. That is how the cherry blossums received their beautiful, yet sad, pink petals.

The way of the sword is simular in a ways. In one perspective, it gives a person a feel of honor, he/she builds their own code of honor based on their principals, and follow it to their death. In other words, to live and die by their blade.

On the other hand, the way of the sword can lead to the path of utter destruction, twisting and warping a persons soul into something as evil, and in some cases, worse than the devil himself. Many have died by the blade, inocent, and guilty.

In a way, the way of the sword, or any weapon of that matter, is like a balance of good and evil, Yin and Yang. The only difference that this way of a weapon has no balance between sanity, and insanity, no boundry, no line. For if it does indeed have one, it is a very, fine line."

In other words, choose your path in life carefully, for you may just end up like one of the soldiers under the cherry blossums...

This is an Samurai thread open to all who are willing to join. People can choose from Samurais, ninjas, clergie man, civilians etc. I haven't decided exactly when I was going to set the time period, except it was going to be right before, or right after the civial war.

If have any questions to ask me, please feel free to ask.

You going for historical Japan, Legend of the Five Rings, Dungeons and Dragons Forgotten Realms/Kara-Tur, or something else. Your little intro was nice but it doesn't give a real solid description of the setting.

Well, if you want swords, I'd recommend going before the civil war (if you mean the most recent one in the 1880's end of the Minja period type thing).

How far are you stretching the rules of natural Japan? IE- as in Lot5R you've got female samurai, is that okay here?

Also if it's mainly samurai that doesn't mean only katana, wakazashi does it? I'd be interested in a ninja character.

I'm interested.

I am assumeing we are going for a high powered spin off of reality.

Vix brings up a good point. American Civil war or Japanese Civil war? (I call Kenshin Himora!):cattail:

I think its Japanese Civil (Whichever came before the Meiji period, damn history teacher... Why don't you teach me something useful for once!!?)

Yes Vix, female samurai are allowed, and if Khadgar doesn't want to join, then yeah, you can have Kenshin, since I am going in that style's direction. And like I said, you don't necessarily have to be a samurai. I think I'll compramise and start it during to war if you guys don't mind.

Nifty!
Hmm... will work up a baseline character (ie let it stew in the subconcious and then pull it out in a day or so).

We going to doing a warring clan type of thing or fighting gai-jin (forigners/outsiders) and are we set on mainland Japan? Okay, the biggest Island, the main one.

Well the heat will definetly be pulsating from the mainland. But if you want, your character could start at one of the smaller islands. If my history is correct, Japan did open trade just before the war so I'll allow foreigners from other lands. (But no guns.)

Anymore questions guys?

yeah hybirdx, why won't you post in Acrolaw??? no jk, so are we going to be basing it on historical factions or are we going to have made up factions in this so we can all be what we want?

I just did post in Acrolaw. Either its the lack or sleep, or I'm a moron at the moment.

Could you be a little specific?

well I was kidding about the acrolaw, anyway, I meant the different government/organization factions there would be in your setting, I don't know much about japan except knowledge about current culture and some command of the knowledge and some traditions. So I wouldn't know what kind of factions there would be, I'm assuming there used to be warlords??

Well, fellow Eva fan, I checked out what happened and it seems your post acidently does't fit with the rest.

Its easy to fix, just go to the post, press edit, and you change your post so it can fit with the others.

yeah but now I have to translate into elven again and figure out what to do.

Yeah, I think the only outsiders from the West were the Dutch. At least for awhile. As for guns, didn't they already have gunpowder weapons in Japan for some time, not the same kind as in the West of course but some kind of basic rifle thingy.

I'm very interested. But, just wondering, you're letting female samurias, Kenshin, and a lot of that good stuff in, but is this going to be a highly stylized look at Japan, or a hyper-realistic, or something in between(as in there are female samurias, ninjas everywhere, but you still have to eat and conform to Bushido)?

This thread is going to lean more on anime stylized than anything. (tThus me letting cats play as Kenshin.)

Sounds good to me. I'll think of a character, then post him as soon as I can.

I guess this is out of context but is your avatar supposed to be Shinji? When he's in one of those scenes where they show him naked? Or am I totally off? btw nice avatar

Oh? why don't you send me a pic of one of the covers I might recognize it.

My Av is one of the covers.

Okay, here one of my characters as kind of a example.

Name: Hibiki
Age: 15
Hair: black
Eyes: black

Weapon of choice: samurai sword, bow and arrow
Style of Fighting: Name uknown.
Member of: The Shisengumi (Or nicknamed the Wolfs of Mibu)

Bio: Though very young, Hibiki is said to be one of the best rising swordsmen in the Shisengumi. and with his, (though still developing,) good skills in sniper typre archery, he is a foe to be reckoned with.

But personality wise, Hibiki is like talking to a rock. He's not very sociable even with members at his age, nor people older or younger than him. But it is said that if you do get a friendly word out of him. He'd most likely be your friend for life.
