Some vampire games have been started before, but I had in mind one that was a little different. Thinking perhaps 18th century late colonial America (1763-1775 ish) probably New England (Boston, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, etc)

Blending some history in with fantasy and horror.

Freeform, open .. be whatever you would like that is appropriate to the vampire theme and the historical period.

Any interest?

I love vampire stories. Would love to participate in this one as a non vampire.

Any more takers?

*bump*

Anyone?

*bumpbump*

Well, if we start it they may come.

This is an RP not a history lesson .. but does anyone need / care for a primer on Colonial New England? :D

not all that knowledgeable on vampires but love that historical period... got a primer on vampires? this sounds like an interesting concept.

This sounds very interesting. I would love to join, but could I have that primer?

Heh. Better Late than Never?

Vampires:

There is no one pattern for a vampire. I don't buy the idea that vampirism has to be one set way, so in this game, as in others that I have done on the subject, vampires can be different from one another .. different 'species' maybe even.

The one common element that I hold to is the obvious: Vampires when first 'made' are weak and dependent upon their masters for survival. As they age, they gain in power, eventually becoming powerful enough to be masters themselves, both of their own offspring vampires and others in the area.

I like the Anne Rice / White Wolf version of 'making' a vampire .. draining down to just the last drop, then sharing blood with the drained one, who then 'dies' and is 'reborn' as a vampire.

This is a freeform game, but I do ask that vampires not be too over the top. Powers should be relative to age, and can be whatever you'd care to have .. including mist, shape shifting, teleportation, etc. but just keep it somewhat fair.

Don't forget too, this is not an urban campaign. Even Boston, in this period, would not be the big, dark, Gothick city. Characters would have a rural 'edge' to them unless they are recently from Europe.

Well, that's the primer for vampires. Now, we need to make some characters

I will play Reverend Carl Whitaker. He has the local church. A quiet, relative man who understand religion plays a fundamental guiding way in the world... not an overpowering bearing load. He believes, as many other christians, the Catholics have gotten it all wrong, and is teaching this way to his followers.

34 years old, with dark brown bushy hair and deep set hazel eyes. He is a tall eaan man, usually wearing black robes and can be seen around town walking from one place to the next, seeing if anyone needs his help, or the Lord's.

He has no clue vampires exist except in stories, and knows nothing of how to kill them or what to do about them.

Anyone else?

I'll be Kit (short for Katherine) Sanders. She lives with her aunt and uncle since her parents died while on a ship to the caribeans since her father had invested money in sugar cane and tobacco down there. She's 19 and very sheltered since her guardians are upstanding citizens in the community and own a few fields and farm animals.

Priscilla "Cilla" Masterson, widowed at 26, she had been unable to pay her husband's gambling bills back in England. The local gentry had given her a choice of emigrating to Australia or America. She had chosen America as she had an elderly uncle living in New England. Upon arrival, Cilla had discovered that her uncle had succumbed to consumption. The 5'7, black haired, green eyed beauty was even more surprised to learn that he had bequeathed his moderate life savings to her, which included his small manor on the edge of town, and his vast library on things of the occult, supernatural, mythological and unexplainable. Now six months later, she had settled into a routine of widowed English woman, she had a few friends she met for tea, a servant girl that helped with the housework and acted as her maid when she went out, and had read her way through the entire mythology section of the library. All in all she had a fairly good life. The biddies of the town thought she should marry again, but Cilla was in no hurry. Married women had little power or freedom, and Cilla would never give a man the ability to have her deported because of something he did. As a widow, Cilla was able to live pretty much as she wished and with the help of her uncle's lawyer, oversaw her own money. Her only discomfort were the middle-aged men of the town who thought she should marry them to raise their children and warm their bed and the young bucks who thought as a widower, she was fair game for their sex games.

Hmm.. The chance to play a sexy vampiress is quite tempting.. I would however, need a more in depth description of the time period.. I take the roles that are a challenge to me, very seriously..

Anna Morris, 21, the teacher of the local school. Unmarried, innocent, and a welcome addition to the community since she arrived, not only keeping the school and grounds beautiful but tending a flower garden at the church as well. Strawberry blonde hair that tends toward curly, emerald green eyes, very talented musician, shy, gentle nature and well liked by her students. Occassionally has discipline problems with the older boys, but has learned how to handle those as well.

Boston, October, 1768.

The Townsend Acts of 1767 are a glimpse into the inevitable future of the American Colonies. Draconian (to the Bostonians) taxes on lead, paint, tea, and paper anger the local residents, who boycott British goods.

In 1768, the British PM sends two regiments of British soldiers to Boston in the so-called "blockade" of Boston.

Boston, as October dawns and the British regiments disembark to occupy the city, is not what we think of as a city. Even to the British and other European visitors and immigrants, it is small, dirty, and rural compared to London (which is large, dirty, and urban).

Even so, Boston, along with New York and Charleston, is one of the most prosperous city in the British Colonies. Merchants build ships here, and send them south to the Carribean with New England molassas, there to brew rum, and take it east to buy slaves. Slavery, it is important to note, is legal everywhere in the British Colonies, even if it is more common in the larger Southern Colonies that are dominated by the plantation system.

Five years prior to the "present", the French and Indian War (or Seven Years' War to Europeans) ended. Britain controlls North America up to the Mississippi, except for New Orleans. New Orleans and the Trans-Mississippi West is ceded by France to Spain. The last few Indian rebellions were supressed a year later, and peace settles uneasily over the British Colonies.

Colonists had, during the Late Hostilities, had for the first time gained mobility and communication. Piracy and smuggling were on the rise, as was an upper class that was increasingly self-interested as opposed to good citizens of the British Empire.

The Sons of Liberty formed and began to fight back against the Townsend Acts, fomenting riots and commiting terrorist attacks (that is what they were) against custom agents and houses.

So as October dawns, the tension is high, and can almost be tasted in the air. It is a traumatic time of violence and uncertan loyalties. It is a time when an enterprising few, whether the Sons of Liberty (and future Founding Fathers), or dark and underworld creatures, can rise in power and fortune, whether in favor of the British status quo, the new rising rebellion, or only in self-interest.

Despite the political background of time and place, there is ample opportunity for role-play in other directions. The British Regiments are not everywhere in Boston, and there is, indeed, a considerable segment of society that wants nothing more than to live in peace and prosper. Silversmithing is a prosperous trade (Paul Revere was a silversmith, journalist (propagandist), and Son of Liberty in 1768), rural Massachusetts provides more than its share of farmers, and the merchant class represents wealth and power, as shown by money, ships, and slaves.

The characters all look good so far. I am not interested in RPing a strict historical campaign, so much as an atmosphere piece of vampirism set against the back-drop of pre-Revolutionary Colonial America.

The time and place ensures that there will be conflict, between American colonists and British soldiers and loyalists.

The night is a paranoid time, of nervous British soldiers, lurking Sons of Liberty agents, merchants and farmers striving to enjoy the fruits of their trade in taverns and theaters .. and of course Creatures of Darkness feeding on the chaos and uncertainty just as much as the blood of those they can take.

William Clavell, 28, The black sheep of the Clavell family. His father Marcus Clavell are one of the most renowned businessmen in Boston. As the only son William are meant to take over the family business one day. The only problem that seem to prevent that from happening is Williams rebbellious nature.

William have black hair, reaching his shoulders. Blue eyes. He are slender built and rather tall.
