OOC: Thread death and conflict

This is a totally OOC thread has no story line.

I've noticed that some threads start out really interesting but stall out. Or there is a lot of characters sort of milling around waiting for something to happen.

Some threads naturally don't have a problem, there's a war going on, instant conflict. Side conflicts erupt when the characters fight over something like a woman or treasure or whether or not Cryo should get his legs waxed.

Some threads don't have a conflict. Just a bunch of characters who don't know what to do after they meet. And then the thread, which had a great deal of potential, stalls out and sort of dies.

I'm not much of an RP'er, but I am a writer, and I do know that in a good story the characters must overcome an obstacle, this is usually referred to as conflict. There has to be something for them to rail against, fight, or otherwise have to deal with or there really is not story. I started a thread that's probably gonna die because the conflict isn't clearly defined and I'm not sure how to do it.

Maybe Kirrix could show up...

Anyway, just me thinking outloud again.

Should Cryo should get his legs waxed?

I personally don't think so...

Kirrix?! Oh fuck! Don't say his name again! He's like the devil... Or beatlejuice... You say his name three times and he gets power in the mortal realm! HE COULD MANIFEST!

As far as Gunrunner goes... I'm sorry that I couldn't help keep it alive babe...

oh i think he should definately get his legs waxed, and the rest of him as well

Rest of them? You mean, you guys don't wax your legs? Years of beauty school tips wasted. Damn swim team, that's it. I am switching to ballet.
I try not to let a thread die, personally. There are only a few which I have left before their time, and those were for reasons of a certain poster, not because the story ever got boring. With the exception of sexmaniac's one line plots (no offence) any story can be pretty good as long as you got some great writers behind it.

Oh i agree with the PoohBear, but i still think Raven needs to wax his legs too, go on Raven, you might just like it, See how nice and shiny Pooh's legs are?

You're all stiff role players!!!

That's why you're threads are always dieing off like that. You people don't know anything about what your doing here. Every one of you follow D&D rules too closely for this to be any fun. Your OOC posts are alway longer then the actualy post! WTF!?! My limp dick can write better then any of you losers could ever hope to. All of you should write like me, because I'm the only one here that knows how you doing this right. Well, other the maybe my buddy Pyrolisk. He knew how to RP just as good as I do. But not the rest of you. Okay, maybe this Cryo guy. He seems okay for a no name nobody. Oh, and since you all must be wondering, I'm going to be starting a new thread soon. I'm hoping that all of you stiff players will be apart of a REAL thread right? But you have to wait though. I'm going to take some more martial arts classes soon(And you know I've got a few more comobs up my sleeve). Till then.

Kirrix,
Who has nothing better to do then cause trouble... ^.^

Oh no, the troll manifestation of the Evil OOne has returned. Oh, by the way, to reply to KM's qustion: I hate it when a thread dies(Unless it's HIS thread)and always try to keep them alive. Although I do sometimes enshadow the plot, but it does come out sooner or later. But even if a thread dies, chances are that my character from the thread will be making other appearances. Yeah, I get too close and personal with my characters, wanna make something of it?

It was Kirrix. We killed him with bad publicity(and nobody better say "there's no such thing as bad publicity). lol

Real frustration is when the thread does have a decent story and goals, and yet the number of responses fades despite your best efforts. Quest For Life had decent writers and a somewhat intriguing plot, but it's just piddling away. Some threads have writers that are virtually unreadable, yet the story rolls along. And then some writers are just noisy. "Look at me, why aren't you looking at me?"

Comobs?

Oh, come on... Why do we so very often get destructive criticism from people who haven't mastered simple spelling? Granted, it could be simple typos... However, the poor boy's entire post is riddled with incorrect usage, bad grammar, lousy logic, and just plain old-fashioned incompetence!

Ah... much better. Thanks, pseudo-Kirrix... I've been feeling rather frustrated lately, and you gave me a wonderful target of opportunity to vent upon. Please do carry on your noble work of annoying your betters. It is awfully amusing.

As for the actual intent of this thread... I would welcome more advice from the true gurus of the boards. My Marvel thread is still going, but could be a lot better, I think. The Portal thread, for which I share responsiblity with two WONDERFUL writers, is lagging as well...

Do you think it possible that they have too many characters? I had thought that the more people involved, the more interesting it would become. However, we seem to have a problem with getting all of the characters to post in a timely fashion. The time we spend waiting for the various people to post is troublesome, but we do have to make allowances for our friends' RL situations, after all.

I would be grateful for any advice offered. (Even from pseudo-Kirrix, if only for the amusement factor.)

Less than ten people in a thread is a good thing... Personally I have found that from three to five poster's work best as far as keeping the flow going, and not having to wait for someone... And poster's with a willingness to post bit parts... That helps things... In several of the threads I have posted little things like guards for instance to keep things at a forward momentum... And once things sort of die down after a thread's begining you DO need conflict... Nothing is more annoying that being told by the threads starter that "No you can't start shit..." Right KM?!

I do admit that I have faded from threads before, shame on me... But if it doesn't hold my interest my posts just get stale in them...

I think i made the mistake , like some of us do, in taking on a little more than i could chew, so i have pulled out of most of the SRP's i was in to give more atention to RP, finding the SRP really is more about sex and has very little to do with real story telling, and that gets boring kinda fast. Don't get me wrong, i like to write sex and i think i do it quite well, but if you eat the same sweets day in-day out after a while they start to become a little bland. I like a chalange in a story, and it's great to find others to write with who feel the same. I dunno what happened to quest for the light, or lords and ladies, but i will do doing what i can to get them going again, unfortunately that means waitng for others to pick up their parts, but i would welcome new players if it came to that. I agree with Ravenloft, that a story has to keep moving, and less is better when it comes to players. I can't stick to a story if i lose my interest either, so you not alone there. Lets keep the adventures going, the thrills and spills, and most of all, lets meet the chalange of makeing a thread the best it can be, and moon any that say otherwise.
Ok, that's the lecture for today, i expect to see your papers on my desk monday and NO excuses. Mua!!

yeah

My threads die ALL the time....sigh, I just have to get more time and start ONE idea at a time, I get all these ideas WAY too quickly and all at once. Then....well...I don't have the time to get them all started....or I start them and they die out

Like...Good Vs Evil II
Ones of Blood
X-men
and many others i have blocked from my memory...

"Comobs" *Snickers* Can't believe I actualy remember when he said that.

Someone should change their sig to read "What's a Comob?"

But then, I have the urge to change mine to "I *cut* you and *blue pencil* you with *obscene, restricted use!*

Or perhaps even: "I love being *questionably phrased!*

Lava, personally, I loved those threads and thought they were simply wonderful and should never of faded. I would gladly write in them if you kept them alove every so often.

I will...

Morgoth, one thread at a time I will revive them..no worries..I may redo them on Ambro's board...do you go there?

Ambro has a board?

Is this for anyone to explore?

Yeah. Right now it's very new, so the RP isn't nearly as big as Lit. I don't want to give out the link here, but if anyone's interested just email me or Ambrosious about it.

hehe...

Yeah he does...I'm a moderator...what a loon...me? moderator...way too much of a power trip....

Lava

That's what I said when I tried to talk him out of making you a moderator.

;)
