The Silverstar Chronicles

Introduction:

This is a science fiction/fantasy game about the members of the Silverstar family, their company: Silverstar Enterprises, and the people close to them. An epic adventure spanning an entire galaxy awaits the characters. We'll have main story arcs that span hundreds of posts, with some gaps in-between for side stories and further character development. I have constructed the first main story arc, as well as a few side stories, to get us started. After that, however, we will decide as a group where the story goes. But before I go into too much detail about the first story arc, let me explain a little bit about my galaxy.

Technical Data:

The United Systems of Galaxia (Galaxian-controlled space) is approximately 170,000 lightyears (close to a thousand trillion miles, or to be precise: 999,600,000,000 miles. Yes, I did the math. One lightyear is 5.88 trillion miles) from one end to the other. Anything beyond the Outer Rim asteroid belt is considered savage and dangerous. Many criminals and fugitives of the U.S.G. flee to Outer Rim worlds. The Ligerdine Syndicate has its headquarters on the Outer Rim world Knoss. From the outer edge of the Outer Rim to the void between galaxies, it’s approximately 79,000 light years. The void itself spans an estimated 11.7 million lightyears to the next galaxy. The people of our galaxy have not been able to travel to other galaxies, but they have been able to send messages to them -- of the seven galaxies they tried to contact, only the closest proved to have planets with intelligent life, though their language was very bizarre. Do to the wait time between messages, only a few sentences have been exchanged.

Starships are powered by Crystal Fusion.

Crystal Fusion: Crystal Core within a Fusion Drive. Liquefied Solaricite (crystals with solar-absorbing capabilities discovered in the caves of an asteroid belt around a sun) spun in spirals around a core of the same crystal. As the subatomic particles in the liquid fuse together from the intense speed and collision of the swirling motion, they create a much more significant energy output than in a solitary state. All this excess energy is confined within the Containment Barrier inside the Fusion Drive, and absorbed into the Crystal Core, where it is then channeled to the Propulsion Conduits. There are Solaricite Mines on the asteroids, where the crystals are mined and shipped to Silverstar Enterprises, who liquefies them and manufactures the Crystal Cores and Fusion Drives, as well as the starships themselves. Most space stations and docks carry Solaricite Pumps to refuel starships -- for a double price, of course: Ten Galaxian Dollars per gallon, plus a service fee, depending on the location. In addition to the Fusion Drive, there are Solaricite Batteries in the engine, which give energy to the power grids of the ship.

Modern starships can go from 0.0001 lph (lightyears per hour) to as fast as 25 lph. Silverstar Enterprises plans to produce a 30+ lph starship in the near future. They also have Inertial Dampeners to make the ship seem to stand still when moving. In addition, the Temporal Stabilizers create a subspace bubble around the ship to prevent it from the side-effects if traveling faster than light -- The faster you travel, the more your own perception of time slows. Without the Stabilizers, moving at lightspeed would result in the space inside the ship slowing to a near halt, while the rest of the universe lives on normally. A father could leave his young son, circle the planet at lightspeed for a few hours, and when he lands back on the planet, his son would be an elderly man, yet the traveler would only be a few hours older. The shields protect the ship from the increased mass when traveling at lightspeed and beyond.

As far as other technologies, we'll just use StarWars.Com and StarTrek.Com for references.

Organizations:

United Systems of Galaxia

Galaxia is the name the people of the USG have given the galaxy. The primary language spoken is obviously English, but in the game, it’s called Galaxian Prime. The USG was first created four thousand years ago with less than a hundred planets allied, but now has most of the planets inside the Outer Rim. The areas inside the Rim that are not part of the USG -- called Neutral Zones -- have treaties with the USG to allow travel and trade between them. Some of them have different governments - for instance, in Neutral Zone 277 there are a few colonies of planets under the rule of a king. This government is called D’Tokaa Vor, and the king is called Djiavmahk Dur-zyn. The D’Tokaa resemble Orcs, and range in color from light grayish green to deep forest green.

The USG has a Grand Senate, comprised of three senators from each sector under its control. There are also three representatives from each sector that sit with the House of Representatives. Each planet has a commissioner, who answers to the governor in charge of that sector. Above the governors are the heads of the various government departments, who answer to the President and Vice President. They are watched closely by the Senate and House, but not as closely as by Internal Affairs or the Secret Service. All departments are headquartered in the city of Zangaard, on the planet Zialaga.

The USG has several primary armed forces and agencies:
- Starfleet
- Marine Corps
- Galaxy Police
- CIA (Central Intelligence Agency)
- DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration)
- FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation)
- NSA (National Security Agency)
- And many others

Police chiefs work with the governors of each sector, and have a captain in charge of the police force on each planet. The captain has one lieutenant as an assistant, and places the others in charge of each command station, spread out around the world. With the speed of shuttles, a squad of police officers can travel from their station to anywhere on the planet in just minutes. They also do regular flight patrols and have armed officers stationed at certain locations. There are command stations at various points in the open space of each sector, and the officers on these space stations patrol the area in small starships.

When the USG formed, they created a new year chart -- 24 hour days, 7 day weeks, 30 day months, 12 month years. We’ll still use the same day and month names. The current year is 3997. There have only been two major wars in recent years -- The Kindred Assault -- a war between Canidians and Wulvarns (humanoid dogs and wolves) -- and the Manslayer Wars -- a long series of huge battles brought on by the Vrazarnians, who claimed their god Hezzot ordered them to kill all humans.

The Manslayer Wars lasted from 3924 to 3933 and the Kindred Assault lasted from 3972 to 3978.

The Ligerdine Syndicate

Shortly after the end of the Manslayer Wars, Carmine Ligerdine began making and selling drugs in an attempt to earn enough money to build himself a new home, since his world was destroyed during the war. He realized how profitable it was, however, and had gathered a network of acquaintances fairly quick. By the end of the year, he had formed the Ligerdine Syndicate.

They dabbed into many other venues, and Ligerdine and his partners became millionaires. However, Ligerdine was diagnosed in early 3936 with Cerebral Monogenus, a disease of the brain that cannot be cured without killing off a large number of brain cells, resulting in permanent retardation in absolute best-case scenarios. The disease starts by plaguing the victim with terrible migraines, a result of a pocket of fluid building up in the brain. Eventually, the pocket will burst, giving the victim relief from the migraines, but also releasing toxins into the bloodstream. Nausea, muscle cramps, and blood in one’s urine and feces soon follow. A sure sign that death is nearly upon the victim occurs when he/she begins vomiting large amounts of blood followed by violent seizures and severe delusions and hallucinations. Ligerdine died in 3938, but his partners kept the Syndicate with his name as a display of respect.

Eventually, the Syndicate grew to a sort of government-like organization, controlling Knoss and several dozen of the surrounding systems. These are Outer Rim worlds. They established a rank system and chain of command:

Highlord (the supreme leader of the Syndicate)
Overlords (there are seven of these who oversee various functions)
Underlords (each Overlord is assigned three of these)
Magisters (one in charge of each base of operations)
Submagisters (assistants to Magisters)
Senior Operatives (in charge of a group of Operatives)
First Class Operatives (workers who have earned the trust of their superiors)
Operatives (the general workers and henchmen)
Associates (people that are not officially in the ranks of the Syndicate, but work alongside them)

Silverstar Enterprises, Inc.

Silverstar Enterprises is the primary source of technology to the government and most major companies. The owner's (Jared Silverstar) net worth is approximately $304 billion, making him the richest man in the galaxy. The company brings in nearly $700 billion a year, but Jared only keeps a small percentage for himself, keeping the rest in the company's bank account for payroll and project budgets. Because this is the biggest company in the galaxy, it pays the best -- Galaxian Minimum Wage is $20 an hour, but even the mailroom attendants and janitors get at least $27-$29 an hour to start. Wages run from $35 an hour for interns and low-level associates to between $70 and $90 for department heads and executives. Silverstar Tower acts as the corporate headquarters, and is located in the center of Zangaard, a city of about nine million people and the capital of the planet Zialaga, as well as the USG.

The First Story Arc:

Okay, here’s what I’m thinking: The Silverstar family is having a huge party on the luxury cruise ship Sana Darga. There are other passengers who are not family members, but just friends or associates. Anyway, they’re all having a good time -- perfect chance to establish the characters. Then, the ship is attacked by pirates hired by Arred Zorganni, one of the Overlords of the Ligerdine Syndicate. They break past the shields, board the ship, and start slaughtering people. In the end, the Fusion Drive explodes, sending the ship flying out of control. The Inertial Dampeners give out as they slow down, removing the gravity field. Then, the ship is caught in the gravity of a planet, and spirals towards it, burning up as it enters the atmosphere. Most who survived the attack and the explosion die from the fires. Just as it looks like the ship will collide with the ground of the planet, all survivors are teleported out of harms way. Turns out a scientist named Dorwan Vorudor saw the ship coming, checked for life-signs, then used his prototype transporter to beam them to the ground. They soon realize they have been declared dead by the USG.

From here, the story can go several directions. The characters can discuss it, but ultimately, they should figure out a way to find out why Ligerdine attacked them, and why they only took a single hostage -- Angelo Silverstar.

Characters can be survivors of the crash (family member or associate), or a member of Dr. Vorudor’s crew. The Silverstar family is very big -- at least up until the explosion. Jared Silverstar has five sons and three daughters. His oldest son Ludo died last year, and his next oldest, Richard, took his place at Jared’s side. Some of the other siblings of Richard are on the Board, as well as trusted associates who have been working with the family for many years.

My Characters:

Jared Silverstar
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/TheJeffinator/ssr17a-1.jpg
Race: Human
Age: 73
Birthday: September 22nd
Birthplace: Zangaard, Ziddan Continent, Planet Zialaga
Occupation: Owner/Chairman of Silverstar Enterprises, Inc.
Relation to Family: Father of older generation, grandfather of younger generation.

Brief Overview: Although a very old man, Jared still acts like a young playboy. He is very responsible and runs his company well, but he loves to go out and party. Being the richest man in the galaxy has its perks -- all his organs are artificial, a procedure he had done many years ago. Thanks to that, he feels 40 years younger than he actually is.

Richard Silverstar
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/TheJeffinator/thunder-110-norman-tommy-lee-1.jpg
Race: Human
Age: 51
Birthday: October 7th
Birthplace: Zangaard, Ziddan Continent, Planet Zialaga
Occupation: Vice Chairman, Silverstar Enterprises, Inc.
Relation to Family: Son of Jared, father of Cloud.

Brief Overview: Richard is a rather simple man, unlike his father. If he’s not working, he’s either fishing or playing golf. He enjoys a beer every now and then, but is usually very quiet and reserved when outside the Board Room.

Angelo Silverstar
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/TheJeffinator/Wilhelm.jpg
Race: Human
Age: 27
Birthday: December 3rd
Birthplace: Zangaard, Ziddan Continent, Planet Zialaga
Occupation: Board Chair, Silverstar Enterprises, Inc.
Relation to Family: Son of Ludo, grandson of Jared.

Brief Overview: Angelo is a bit of a spoiled brat. His father Ludo showered him with everything he wanted, and even managed to land him a seat on the Board at age 25. Ludo would always make sure Angelo was heard, but when he died, Angelo was horrified. Richard became the new Vice Chairman, and put a stop to Angelo’s attitude, for the most part. Without his father, the boy had no voice on the Board -- they disregarded everything he said because of his cocky demeanor. On several occasions, he nearly lost his seat, mainly because of angry outbursts.

Now that everyone on the Board dislikes him, and only keeps him on because he’s family, he fears he will never fulfill his dream of running the company. He has a deep hatred of his uncles and aunts on the Board for making him feel so lousy, especially Richard.

Ensign Cloud Silverstar
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/TheJeffinator/KIMjiWON.jpg
Race: Human
Age: 24
Birthday: May 1st
Birthplace: Zangaard, Ziddan Continent, Planet Zialaga
Occupation: Junior Engineering Officer, USS Infinity, US Starfleet
Relation to Family: Son of Richard, grandson of Jared.

Brief Overview: Cloud is more like his grandfather than his father. He is very smart, and always got good grades in school, but wasn’t like most geeks -- he was considered cool by his classmates, and had several girlfriends over the years. He enrolled at Starfleet Academy, and graduated Valedictorian. He was stationed aboard the USS Infinity, where he has served for two years, save for his 30 days leave for his first year. He is taking his second 30 day leave to go on a cruise with his family.

Major Jonas McLann
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/TheJeffinator/ERICK.jpg
Race: Human
Age: 31
Birthday: February 26th
Birthplace: Mandrake City, Duanda Continent, Planet Tasarula
Occupation: Commanding Officer, 102nd Special Forces Regiment, US Marine Corps
Relation to Family: Acquaintance

Brief Overview: His parents died at a young age, and his foster parents hated him -- Jonas was a troubled child. He was a street punk, and dabbled in drugs and crime. The DEA busted him selling drugs -- he was only 13. He was shipped off to military school, where he learned honor and respect. After graduation, he went to an academy to become marine officer. He excelled through the ranks, becoming a Major at age 30.

Ace
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/TheJeffinator/android01-1.jpg
Race: XT-5000-Series Battle Android
Age: 4
Birthday: January 1st
Birthplace: Zangaard, Ziddan Continent, Planet Zialaga
Occupation: Property of the USG, assigned to Major McLann
Relation to Family: Acquaintance

Brief Overview: Ace is the nickname he was given by Major McLann. His body is very durable, and built so he can wear full military gear over his outer hull. He can interface with most computer systems wirelessly, and his eyes have several levels of zoom, infrared vision, night vision, x-ray vision, and recording capabilities. He can use any weapon, but also has laser blasters in his palms.

Dr. Dorwan Vorudor
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/TheJeffinator/FOMA.jpg
Race: Human
Age: 57
Birthday: July 6th
Birthplace: Quinnhaven, Cyrix Continent, Planet Quinn
Occupation: Runs the Vorudor Complex (a small village of scientists) on the southern coast of Cyrix, just 40 miles south of Quinnhaven.
Relation to Family: Soon to be Acquaintance

Brief Overview: A genius at both advanced science and martial arts, Dorwan is a man of many words. A few years back, he moved his operations to the forest between Quinnhaven and the beach, and built his Complex. His greatest invention ever is Azure.

Azure
Appearance: http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o178/TheJeffinator/Man_in_Blue_by_Xerophia666-1.jpg
Race: R-100-Series Nanoplasmic Android Prototype
Age: Yet to be activated
Birthday: N/A
Birthplace: Vorudor Complex, Cyrix Continent, Planet Quinn
Occupation: None/Experiment
Relation to Family: Soon to be Acquaintance

Brief Overview: An advanced android with nanoplasm running through veins in his body -- nanoplasm is a blood-like liquid infested with nanobots that repair his body if damaged. Each nanobot stores a record of his memories, so even if he is completely destroyed, as long as a single drop of nanoplasm remains, he can regenerate. With the growing tension between the USG and the Ligerdine Syndicate, Dr. Vorudor wanted to create an army of super androids to prevent another war -- Azure is the first.

I'm marking this one, it sounds good, though I think you went into too much detail on some stuff and not nearly enough other and in some ways I really confused but if there is enough interest this sounds cool.

Well, let me know where you're confused and where you need more detail and I'll full in the gaps.

I don't think this is remotely possible and I don't think it would work the way you're explaining anyway, either that or you've got something reversed. I mean the time space bubble around the ship would have no effect on the son who's on the planet and obviously not inside the bubble. So what exactly did your stabilzers help?

Considering you went through so much explaining so much of the history, technology, and even the politics of the universe you didn't detail the races at all which seems to mean one of two things, either you plan to, or there are so many planets that we are kinda free to make whatever the hell we want.

You didn't explain anything about war tech which is absolutely vital to a space rp. I also think you're a bit heavy on the charachters but that's your business.

Well, some of my characters will die in the explosion. As far as technology, I stated we'd just use starwars.com and startrek.com for references. And yes, the galaxy is so big you can make whatever races you want. Sorry, should have said that.

And you've got backwards what I meant about the subspace bubble -- the son being older while the father younger is the result of NOT having a bubble. That was an example, as I said at the beginning, "without the stabilizers." It's a scientificly proven fact that the faster your body moves, the slower time moves for you. Sure, proven tests only result in a few miliseconds difference, but still. If you went at lightspeed, your body would slow to a near halt. It would be like for every hour you're at lightspeed, twenty years passes outside the ship. The stabilizers prevent that. They keep the space inside the ship on track with everywhere else. In my example without the stabilizers, the son would see his father leave, live out most of his life, and many decades later, his father would return, only a few hours older than when he left.

Oh I get what you're thinking.

With using Star Wars as a reference point is there magic/the force/religion?

Well, there's no Jedi Order on the scale it is in the movies, but there could be, like, monks with slight chi powers or something. Plus there's genetic engineering. And yes, there is magic, it's just thought upon as myth by most people. With such advanced technology, there is little use for magic. As far as religion, we can just say different cultures have different beliefs. However, a majority of people believe in a Supreme Universal Balance.

Ok. I was curious about those things. Damn we've got some high techa, I ditn'e really read over your charries at first. Well I hope this gets off the ground.

New bump.

What are the policies on weapons anyway at the party is it only what we can sneek in cus it sounds like your society is generally safe enough that walking around packing is probably in poor form.

Yeah, people would be checked for weapons before boarding the ship -- the richest men in the world are on it. They can steal weapons from the pirates during the attack, plus Vorudor can supply them with what they need afterwards. The security guards on the ship have standard blaster pistols, though.

I was thinking of a few easily concealable weapons, maybe a ring that can fire lasers. I'm still kind of mulling ove ideas as I hope that this thing picks up steam.

On a side note as I'm thinking it could be possible that weapons are part of the culture despite things being relatively calm. I mean General Greivous (and your own Azure would be formidable even against armed oppnents, they would be next to invincible in a hand to to hand confrontation and quite possibly able to defeat several guards before being bested.

Note don't take this as argueing take this as two fold questioning a universe (My inner fanboy means that the more I like and idea the more I"ll question it.) and bumping the threat without blatantly saying bump!

Well, Azure is a prototype. The galaxy has never before seen that level of technology. As stated, he has not been activated yet. Vorudor has been working on his design for several years. I plan to go into more detail about him when Vorudor explains it to the characters. Also as stated, Azure is Vorudor's greatest creation. The guards have weapons, so there would be no need for the passengers to have them -- afterall, it is a luxury cruise, no one expects to get attacked in what is supposed to be safe space by a small fleet of cloaked pirate ships, even though there are guards. Then again, one can never be too careful. But, we must admit, even in these times of war in our own world -- even when having a gun for safety is a higher priority than ever before -- you still can't take the gun on a plane or ship.

As for the ring, maybe it's hallow and full of nanobots. Maybe the nanobots are wirelessly connected to a cufflink, and when you press the cufflink between your fingers for five seconds, it activates the weapon. Then, each time you press the cufflink, it sends a signal to the nanobots, and then they send a burst of energy to the top of the ring, resulting in a short laser blast? You could press the cuff over and over for a rapid-fire effect. What do you think? Then again, why would your character have that? Is he just cautious, or is he perhaps and undercover agent who thinks the cruise ship will be target for pirates?

An idea I had for a later story arc is for being to come from some higher plane or something, kind of like angels and demons. Could be awesome.

You gave WAY too much information for this to be popular as my exp goes. And we aren't starting in a spot that lends it self well to sex or combat again no brainer from my exp.

As the reasons I woudln't feel safe in a room with Wookies or General Grevios if I were unarmed. Even sans light sabers he's got four arms and he's a machine.

I just wanted people to be well informed of the galaxy and all. Otherwise, plotholes are sure to surface as characters post things that may contradict something else. I dunno, maybe I should have just done a few short paragraphs and then correct people if they post something that contradicts something I've created in my galaxy. As for the weapons -- well yeah, you'd want to be armed if you were on a ship with Wookies or General Grevious. You'd also want to be armed on a plane incase of hijackers, but we all know security wouldn't allow us. They expect us to trust them to protect us -- this is true with the guards of the Sana Darga as well. Only difference is security is actually ON the ship and stationed throughout. Plus, during the attack, I'm sure we could arrange it so that the characters could get into the small armory in the back of the security office. Plus they can take weapons from fallen guards or pirates. As far as sex, they can have some of that prior to the attack or after it. And there will be plenty of combat during the attack and in situations afterwards.

Also, about the armed thing -- if security allowed everyone on the cruise to have weapons, how do they know some of them aren't pirates in disguise?

I wasn't really arguing the logic of your world so much as explaining the logic of my charachter. But for the record you anology is badly flawed. We don't get onto plains with hijackers. We get onto planes that MAY have hijackers. How many plans have been hijacked since 1970? Not to mention this is a situation where as lon gas everybody is unarmed they are on roughly equal footing. I mean sure Jackie Chan and Arnold Schwarzenager aren't on equal footing with 90% of humanity.

In your world there are races at least just pulling from Star Wars and Star Trek, guys that can fly, guys far stronger than humanity. Some intense cyborgs (even not counting yours there is still the Skywalker family tradition of an artifitical arm and while they never show these arms being stronger than normal logically they'd have to be. And we KNOW we'd be in contact with them, rather than you know maybe being on a ship with a pirate.

Still I see your point and I didn't mean to argue with you on the way your world works, bottom line is that it's your world and you get to set the rules.

I also understand putting out your information i try to put out as much as possible when I can too, I'm just saying that there was a lot of information there to absorb and a lot of it didn't feel relevant to where we were, I think you should have started off as a generic space opera and a party and then we could add information as it was appropriate. People don't like (as a rule) to read.

I guess not. I just wanted to sufficiently detail the world so it would be easier for people to do their character bios without wondering "Does this contradicts with anything?" I know I hate diving blindly into something, but I sometimes forget other people prefer it that way to varying degrees.

Oh well. I'll give this game till Monday, but if no one else has shown interest by then, I'm dropping it. I'll try one of my other ideas and keep the details to a minimum.
