Secretly works under the alias, Rick Graham with the underground railroad to help slaves get north. uses his fathers money to further his part in the cause.

Oohh. I enjoy the looks very much. I'd enjoy the chance to give this a twirl as a villainous kind of sort.

Maj. Andrew Leary
Height: 6'3
Weight: 180 lbs
Black Hair
Green eyes
Story: Rising star in the Confederate army. At 27 looks to be on his way to being one of the youngest Generals of all time. Is from a wealthy Raleigh family and will fight to the death for the Confederacy. His battalion is fresh off a series of impressive victories.

I like the idea

The character - Frank Garrett, a civilian, a poor man from a poor family. His father and his father before him farmed the Garrett farms, but his brains and nack for mechanical things earned him a spot as a railroad engineer before the war. When things went badly, he figured he stood a better chance staying south than heading north, and got recruited as a confederate munitions officer. Always sly and never really that honorable for a southern man, he came up with a plan to head north one day, and soon found himself in no-man's land near the battlefieds, a place of spies, beautiful women, and all sort of things like that. Holding loyalty to noone, and doing anything for a bit of money or a favor, he is striving North, hoping to end up in Canada before the nation falls apart.

Frank Garrett -
5'8" tall,
150 lbs soaking wet
wild black hair, a deep tan from constant walking
bright blue, shifty eyes.
and a stringy build that betrays a man of more brain than brawn

Madeline (Maddie) Alcott
age 24
petite, fair-skinned, light brown hair in soft curls
Laundress by day, Cyprian by night

Maddie's late husband, Benjamin, had enlisted in the Confederate army, and she had joined him in the camp, in exchange for her service as a laundress. The Alcott's young daughter, Emma, had been taken in by her maternal grandparents. Unfortunately, Benjamin had been killed in an early battle. Not having enough money for transportation to her parents' home, Maddie was allowed to stay on as a laundress in exchange for food and housing. Her parents, however, have written that Emma is ill, and they are unable to afford the medicine and doctors neccessary. In desperation, Maddie has decided to expand her services to the men of the camp, becoming a Cyprian, or prostitute.

From a website about women's roles during the Civil War:

"Many soldiers' wives found themselves at an army camp simply because, when her husband enlisted, she had no place else to go. Once at the camp, she might assist as a nurse, or she might do the laundry, or the cooking.

"But, for some women, being able to cook, or to be a laundress or nurse, were not necessarily the services which were in greatest demand. Some women, due to the havoc of war, were forced into near destitution, and it didn't take long for them to realize that there was a different type of service which they could provide for the soldiers. Both the North and the South camps had prostitutes (commonly referred to as "Cyprians", which comes from the word, "Cyprus", the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love). The cost for what some soldiers referred to as "horizontal refreshment" was about five dollars, however, since medical records of the time indicate thousands of cases of venereal disease, it seems that these men actually paid a much higher price for their pleasures than they at first realized.

"Enjoying the favors of camp prostitutes was not restricted to enlisted men. Officers, alike, utilized the services of camp followers. The most notorious Cyprian of the time was a woman named "Major" Annie Jones. She spent the first two years of the war as a guest of officers who kept her supplied with her own needs: tents, horses, rations--as well as money. She claimed that General Custer was one of her most gallant conquests."

WOW! I am impressed by the quick responses! Thank you all for joining!!! I am going to start the thread of the same name. Jump in whenever you are ready.

For anyone else who wants to join, post here first then jump in!

Thanks again!!

Brett Girand

Captain Brett Girand... Confederate Blockade runner. Owner and Captain of the "Cherokee Rose". He provides weapons for Lee's army and frivolities for the Southern Belles. He'll bring in or take out anything or anyone for a price...
Modeled of course on Rhett Butler.

It may not matter much but what's the time?

1863 or what? It won't matter much but it might help us know what stage the war is at.

Hmmmm. I should have paid more attention in History obviously. I have no idea the timeline for the Civil war. It is not at the beginning tho since I posted that my father was killed in a battle. Let's say the war is half over? If you know anything better let me know Scruffy! Thanks!

I guess that means about 1863. The important thing about 1863 is that it was a big swing year in the war. If it's pre-Gettysburg then the South looks great. Post Gettysburg is when the South started to fall apart.

So 1863 but pre or post Gettysburg(Gettysburg was fought in July 1863)

Ok let's make it Pre-Gettysburgh! Thanks for the info Scruffy. I want it at a point that the South was still in good standing or else my services may not have been needed!

Ok, though don't know how she'll fit in

Eugenia "Gennie" Hampton
Age: 23
Long, dark hair, green eyes, 5'4", small boned

Gennie is a very typical southern belle, raised among the gentility of Southern hospitality on her father's plantation just outside of Charleston. However, when the war starts, Gennie's father joins with the local militia and is killed, and her mother - in a fragile state afterwards - dies. Soon after the slaves have run off, leaving Gennie to fend for herself in a world where she never thought she would ever have to lift a finger to survive.

She has moved to the family home in Charleston, where a few faithful servants still remain. Slowly losing her innocence, and learning to survive, Gennie hates anythng "Yankee" and supports the confederacy whole-heartedly.

Before the war she was pretty and vivacious. Although she can still charm a man with her southern belle ways, the loss of food in the confederacy is beginning to show - Gennie is becoming thin, but still a very attractive woman. And she would be willing to do almost anything to insure the confederacy wins to avenge the death of her father and her mother.

As I said....don't know where, of if, I'll fit in, but figured there just HAD to be a southern belle in here somewhere....

Welcome Aboard Chele! Not sure where any of us fits in yet! But we shall all muddle our way through! You may post in the thread whenever you like! The char. sounds great.

Mine and Adrian's characters

OOC: Sorry Adrian and I didn't see the OOC thread till I posted!!! Sorry!

Jonathan (Pearsall?) (My, Destiny's, character)
Another young man, also from the 33rd, he is an arogant asshole pretty much. He is about 6'2" and never had to work for anything a day in his life. he went into this thinking he'll be the most brilliant and heroic soldier in this war, we'll see how that pans out. His daddy, the governor, did get him up pretty high in ranks, and he was often the Major would send on duties, after Ltn. Pearsall of course. (Unless you want someone to be Pearsall then I can be him! Let me know Major ) He was the overseer of his fathers plantation back home, a cruel dictator over the slaves.

Adrian Matthew (The originality he shows :) )
A young man of the North Carolina 33rd. My family owned a large plantation, home to over 300 slaves. My father was ill and unable to fight, my brother had left and went to fight for the north. He was always the rebel in the family, I knew slavery was cruel... and I suppose it was probobally wrong, but none of that mattered. I was fighting for my home, I wouldn't abandon my family, leave my home. They'd destroy it, the slaves were all we had. I'm 17, gonna be 18 tommorow (Don't worry moderators...) I worked to hard on the plantation right along with the slaves, ours weren't treated too harshly, especially now that father was sick. I left discipline up to Caleb, our black overseer who was now pretty much running the place, with a little direction from my mother Catherine. And hear I was fighting. I have sun streaked blond hair with dark green eyes, and deeply tanned skin from laboring in the fields.

Welcome aboard Destiny and Arian! I like the charcters! I hope this thread runs for quite a while!

Jo(sephine) Bonner

A southern farmer's daughter, whose father was killed in battle, and so she disguises herself as a boy and joins the rebel army herself, to avenge his death. Jo is very small and slight, and has no trouble passing for a boy of fifteen or so.

OOC: I've never posted before, but have enjoyed reading the stories on this board very much, and am eager to try a different style of online rp than I am used to. (AOL RP is too insipid for words at times :) ) Let me know if I'm welcome or not, I understand an aversion to newbies!

Welcome Marigold! The thread is "The Sexual Battles of the Civil War" and you may post whenever you like! We were all newbies here at one point! No aversion to them ;) Just make sure that your character is 18 or older. Thanks! Oh and have fun :)

Let me know if you think your thread has enough players. I love the Civil War and - sometime ago - played a Confederate General in one of the most enjoyable RP threads ever.

Thor's Hammer....Everyone is welcome! There are quite a few players here but just work your character in. Eventually I think we will all wind up in Savannah. That way we can tie us all together. But take your time getting there if you wish.

We can still use some more female players, also!!!

Never mind... I'm fine now. It just seemed like everyone was following his or her own agenda :)
