OOC: The Price of Freedom

Hello all.

I thought that I would start a thread of my own around here which I can GM.

Okay, I have always wanted to do a super heroes thread. I know that there have been a lot but I was thinking of making this one slightly different. See, the characters aren't born with them, don't have genes in them that make them they way they are, haven't been bitten by spiders or such but have been experimented on by a government, trying to find the ultimate weapon. I know what this sounds like and it is nothing like Dark Angel. The premise is that there are individuals that have been experimented on since before they were born and given great powers.

It was then that one of the people in a facility realized that what they were doing was wrong and organized a rising up of the people there. What ensued was a bloody battle where most of the people were killed but a few of them survived and escaped. They have since moved to another part of the world to try and hide.

All they wanted to do in the world is to live their own lives and be free but the governments of the world would love nothing more than to get their hands on them so they can make more super powered people just like them. The group try to hide out but when ever one of them uses their powers they have to move again.

It is then that they are contacted by a person who tells them that she can hide them but they must do one thing for her. When they go to her they find out that she was one of the scientists that helped to create the group. At first they are reluctant to help her but then she tells them that she can hide them better than anyone else can and creates new identities for them. They want to know what she wants in return and she tells them that she wants help to make the world better than what it is.

Now, there is no "super hero team" so to speak of but you can come together as you do know each other.

Okay, first off no big super powers (please don't have the ability to fight off fifty people and walk away without a scratch and no destroying entire cities) other than that you're fine but post a bio on here and I will see if your character fits.

Everyone will be roughly the same age, around about 20-30 (well duh)

Okay lets see...

Name: Samuel Miller

Age: 22

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 240 lbs.

Ability: Samuel is able to manipulate the size and density of his body (i.e. - he is able to grow taller or shorter, make his skin rock-like or almost amoeba-like). He can do this to his whole body or just certain body parts. However, his metabolism is at a constant high, making him have to constantly eat in order to "shift." He has been known to pass out or not be able to use his power if he is weak.

Description: Samuel is short, chubby, and has a cherubic face. He has curly brown hair and brown eyes. He wears specially made underwear that can somewhat reatin his body shape (although he can rip them apart). He likes to wear baggy kakis and flipflops with a University of Kansas hoodie (he was told he was born there).

Temperment: Samuel is a shy, reclusive young man. He is very self-consious about his body, and hates to "shift" in front of women (espically if he has to take off his cloths). Because of his having to eat constantly, he always has a beer belly and slight double chin. He likes to joke and read mystery novels, and even tries to write his own. He usually wears a pair of horn-rimmed glasses for reading and writing, but he always seems to have them on. He is a natural born follower, and anyone with a charaismatic attitude and strong "father figure" personality Samuel seems drawn to.

OCC: Hope this is what you are looking for! If you want me to explain how they gave him his power, I think I could try to explain it. Hope this can take off and be a lot of fun!

Name: Talon

Age: 25

Height: 6`

Weight: variable

Ability: On outward appearance is 100% human - it is his internal composition that has been changed beyond anything normal. His blood is made out of a strange metal, he has the ability to change its density at will, in one moment he is heavier than a truck the next light as air. He has a heightened dependency to meat and has to even eat metal to stay alive. If he exerts himself without eating he becomes sluggish (think of it as a form of diabetes)

Description: White male well built keeps hair cut short, very hard features on his face, sometimes when his is very weak from not eating enough his skin turns a shiny metallic. This is the side effect of his dependency off keeping his blood running at the right level.

Temperament: Brutish in a fight using his weight shifting to cause serious damage, but a bit of a loner its not to say he has no friends but his friendship has to be earned. When he is comfortable with someone then he has a dry sense of humour.

Name: Hayden Wiley

Age: 27

Gender: Male

Appearance: 6'2, 215lbs, Black hair in ponytail that reaches down between his shoulder blades, black goatee, blue eyes, slightly thin build, but toned. Generally wears long, knee-length coat.

Weapon: Carries shoulder-holster Glock 9mm pistol (10 shots magazine + 1 in chamber) at all times. Sleeps with pistol under pillow.

Attitude: Very untrusting and has hard time taking anyone at face value. Flashbacks of mind altering experiments have made him slightly standoffish and a borderline loner. Wiley is very jumpy, but not paranoid. Often disappears from family and friends for long periods of time without explanation.

History: As one of the final experimental subjects, Wiley was subjected to a highly accelerated program which left lasting marks on his psyche. Without the final sessions, aimed at dealing with the side effects of his powers, he has had to find ways to suppress the pain caused by using the powers. This suppression has led to severe flashbacks at times. Before being discovered as missing and hunted by the government, Wiley was a student in Chemical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines where he spent his free time rock climbing and backpacking, and went on to earn his masters degree in Optics and Applied Physics. The government’s initial plans were to use Wiley as covert ops agent assigned to infiltrating high-security installations, but plans were changed when he disappeared following the uprising. The government fears he may be working for another agency or foreign power, and is very alert and responsive to sightings.

Powers: Can mask other's minds and effectively "disappear" from the visual spectrum (Not invisibility, but people do not see him when using his power). There has also been some emergence of a second power, the ability, when intensely focusing, to impart large amounts of force on objects from a distance. The telekinesis has not been fully developed, and can only be used intermittently and for short periods of time.

Weakness: Can still be picked up by cameras, infrared sensors, guard dog noses, etc. He suffers flashbacks to the experimental procedures and mind training periodically, most frequently following use of a power. The flashbacks are normally mild and do not interfere with daily life, but following times when power is used extensively, flashbacks can become quite real in his mind causing lapses in judgment and short bouts with psychosis.

Name: Rick (Fierce) Haggon
Age: 20
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 250lbs
Ability: Very musculer and tall Rick is naturally strong, his strength equal to that of a world class weight lifter is no superhuman feat. Thick veiny muscles run along every inch of his tall wide body frame and outline his very large muscles. Often when angered he enters into a rage which his ability amplifies 10 fold. When in this rage he becomes so energized his body bursts into flame. Not harming him in any way he can control this flame by means of fire balls, streams, and etc..
Description: His tall and wide frame is always covered with something different usually loose fitting . He always wears a chain mail suit so once the flames ate away the clothes he wouldent be nude. His boots are worn and blackened tight fitted to his over sized feet. His eyes blue his hair blonde he has a rough face, pitted with scars and gashes.
Temperament: Pretty even tempered and hard to get angry. But when he does....

Okay... So I wanna join and I have a charry in mind. I may not be able to post very often though. At least once every two days. (No promises, sorry)

Name: Eve Langlon

Age:26

Height:5'5"

Weight: (yeah right )

Ability: Is super conductive. She can store electricity in her body and release it at will. While it takes a massive storage of electricity to be able to unleash it as a stream of lightning or somesuch, she as more adept at shorting out circuits by touch and shocking. If she stores too much electricity (which she can pick up just by being near an electrical outlet) she has to find a way to realease it before it fries her insides and turns her to liquid.

Weaknesses: She is susceptible to shocking herself when she is wet and conducting electricity. So basically, if you throw a bucket of water over her while she's shorting out a computer.... she'll fry herself.

Description: Relatively slender frame, long straight black hair that falls down to her waist. Startling green eyes and a rosebud mouth. Petit features.

Temperament: Has an often sarcastic nature and likes to be in control. Independant and headstrong, she tends to be stubborn. However, quick thinking and logical, a good choice for tight situations.

History: Eve grew up in the facility. She was only aware of other children like herself very recently, in fact the day of the uprising.
She was raised with the purpose of being the forerunner to hostile invasions of the state's enemies. She would shut down any security features, take out any weak resistance and open the door for regular troops.
She was maltreated however and the experiments that created her were painful and when the uprising happened, she took the opportunity to slip away.
Now she's on the run, having tasted freedom, and not willing to give it up that easily.

Special notes:
Eve can be touched. She is only dangerous in two ways, if she willingly lets the electricity out of her body, or if she overloads via storing too much in her body. She is also trained as all combat units would have been trained in the military. She is deadly with blades and accurate with projectile weapons. Though she rather prefers hand to hand combat.

Name: Amy Hale
Age: 18
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 115

Ability: Amy can manipulate air. She can create pockets of air or airlessness, remove or add contaminants, harden it into a shield or platform. She was working on fine manipulation of these attributes before current events, mainly creating object from air that she could use such as listening at a distance, or creating keys to unlock doors.

Description: Amy, like most 18 year olds, wears a lot of punk and bondage type clothes. She has blond hair and dark brown eyes and favors hats and big boots. She has no tats or percings because she has a fear of needles, but favors dramatic make-up to make up for it.

Temperament: Amy is a bit emo. She can be wildly defiant one moment and then cry at the ending of Walt Disney movie the next. She trusts no one, but falls in love easily and has had bad luck with boyfriends. She'll save your bacon and then kick you out of the car, and be abjectly sorry the next day she did both.

It is just how I imagined them to be. Keep up the good work and I know that we will all have fun with this thread.

There is one question I have to ask you all though. I need to bring everyone together so I'm asking you where you all want to be, which city that is.

Name: Michael

Age: 29

Height: 6'

Weight: 185

Ability: Michael is telekinetic, but in a unique way. While he can perform the simple, telekinesis "parlor tricks" (such as making a ball spin while suspended in mid-air), his real power is the ability to manipulate objects at the molecular level. It has limitations, in that the denser a substance is, the less he can affect it. In other words, while he could conceivably cause air to become so thick it stops bullets in mid-flight, he could not cause solid metal to bend or break because its molecular bonds are too strong.

Description: he's an average looking guy, brown hair that hangs in his face and green eyes. Sometimes he's clean shaven, often times he is not. He's an old, faded pair of jeans and tee shirt kind of guy, somewhat bummy looking, but with a certain appealing style. He's a guitar player, so its not unusual to see him wearing a concert tee shirt from some metal or classic rock band.

Temperament: generally bland, and usually not one to anger very easy. He doesn't joke much, and appears somewhat somber. He's not depressed, he just feels like an outsider because of his power. He'd much rather be playing a David Gilmour rift on his guitar than engaging in conversation with anyone.

Maybe you ran through the experiments a little faster than me, or I came into the program later than you did.

The OP doesn't say we've been in the program since birth, so they could have recruited from all age groups.

Got room for me? I have a character idea, but I fear that it might be a little beyond what Angelus wants for this thread, so I want to run it by him before putting it up here and joining officially.

Well, I'm kinda reluctant to put up a full bio mainly because the character's abilities are the result of genetic splicing. And I quote: "See, the characters aren't born with them, don't have genes in them that make them they way they are, haven't been bitten by spiders or such but have been experimented on by a government, trying to find the ultimate weapon."

The genetic splicing resulted in the character being incapable of fitting into a city. Basically, his appearance is downright scary.

The gene splicing idea is feasible.... I mean the scientists in the facility would have done anything to try and make their experiments the most powerful they can.

What I thought was that every though they had been brought in as children they would have been at different ages while going through the program so to speak. That's why they are all different ages now.
