OOC: The Long War

I know that I have just started a new thread- about two days ago that is but I had a damn good idea for a new one. It is a What If thread and it is all about the Second World War. The idea for this thread is what if all the things that stopped the war (D-day and the atomic bombs) never happened.

I had planned to place this in the year 1968 and the war is still raging. There are no nuclear weapons at all and everything is conventional. The only areas that have been untouched are Australia and New Zealand as they have been turned into neutral areas. Everybody wants this war to be over but nobody wants to surrender- especially Adolf Hitler who is still the leader of the Nazis.

Seeming as the year is now 1968 a new innovation has just been brought out by the Americans- the nuclear reactor. They have placed it inside their newest ship, a large aircraft carrier but they do not want it known.

I'll take the part of two characters in this- one being the President of the United States and the other being a sergeant in an infantry unit.

I hope that whoever reads this post likes the idea and jumps right in as I would love to see this really take flight.

Oh, and if you have any ideas and questions that you wish to add then please do so- I don't want to run this by myself.

President Nathan Andrews

President Andrews is the youngest president ever to be elected. He has served on the front for two years and knows what it is like. He wants nothing more than to finish this war as he knows that it has been going on for far too long but he will never surrender. He knows of the nuclear reactor and how his cabinet want him to make a weapon out of it but he will never do that as he knows that by doing so it will destroy countless of innocent lives. But he wonders what he has to do to end this war.

Large scar running from just below his hairline on the right side of his face to the side of his mouth on the left side.

Ethan was born under the shadow of this war and has lived his entire life in it. He has been in the battlefields of the world for nine years and he is sick of the war and the futility of it. He wants nothing more for it to be over so that he can get back home. Everybody in the unit that he is in looks up to Ethan as he is more experienced than anyone else and they know that if they follow him they will make it.

Age: 39
Weight: He can loose and gain weight within about 30 pounds in a month at will depending on how he decided to alter his appearance. Usualy he runs about 183 lbs.
Height: 5'9"
Hair: Unremarkable shade of brown
Eyes: light brown

Rank: Equavalent of a Major in the United States Army

Prefered weapon : suppressed .22 pistol, paino wire garrotte, a blackjack, a knife of just about any kind, and lots of composition B high explosives. Those are prefered, but he has been known to use anything from a stick to a can of ham to beat someone into retardation if he has to.

Saul is a Jew from Brooklyn, but you would never know it from talking to him, as he speaks fluent German, Spanish and Dutch speaking them all like a cultured native from each culture.

A product of the war years, growing up knowing that Germany was exterminating his people, and knows that the defeat of the Nazis is his only hope for the United States, Freedom, and of course, the Jews.

After going to West Point and graduating 43 in his class of 407, he was snatched by the Office of Strategic Services, trained in Canada how to run agents and acts as a commando.

What the OSS got was an agressive, very adaptable officer committed to making Germany bleed.

He is currently opperating out of London, working with the SOE (Special Opperations Executive - British version of OSS in WWII) as a counter-inteligence agent were, through a process of subversion, bribery, and outright physical force, he runs a network of people who are know to be spies for Germany. These spies don't even know he is in control of them, and he has been running this network for years and feeding Germany information thats 99% truth, but just off enough to be of no use while lettng them think they have something.

He sometimes goes behind enemy lines to retrive inteligence...and people. Captured pilots, sources, agents, and the ocasional unlucky SS officer who he has a special place in his heart for.

He is a very nice guy to his friends, although somewhat lonely and cold to people he doesn't know, and takes Absolutely NO shit from people reguarding his religion. People who do give him shit usualy find themselves on the floor fast if they are lucky. If they aren't, then they wake up in the hospital.

Ocasionaly, if it happens in the field, then they don't wake up at all...

Reguardless of his personality to his own side, he posesses a uncontested vicious streak a mile wide and twice as deep when it comes to Germans, from privates to generals, and rumor has it that he has conducted his own brand of Phyc Warfare in Germany the doesn't quite mesh with the laws of warfare, but that kind of stuff isn't discussed to his face, not that he denys it at all. It just makes most people sick to their stomach.

His superiors know about it, and they aren't going to do anything to stop him as he gets results, but unless a G-d himself promotes Goldstein, he isn't going to climb any further in rank.
