I wanted to give a crack at a group furry thread in a different context than the usual night/strip club setting. So I figured I'd try something a little more low key.
The city is San Domino, a town along the coast in Southern California. It was established back in the 1800's by a Catholic missionary, but soon integrated people from all walks of life. In the last few generations, furries have become the predominant group, with the humans that still live there sticking to a couple of residential districts.
The neighborhood is Hilltop, the city's artistic district. Hilltop shows the city at its finest and its worst in terms of culture. More than three quarters of all the buildings have some manner of professional grafitti art on them. Illicit substances are very common. Street performers are everywhere. And the city's youth have all but monopolized the traffic in the area.
The place is The Fire Circle, the city's largest and most popular cafe. It's a rarity among the other coffee shops in the area in that it actually has two floors open to the public.
The first floor is the coffe shop proper, featuring many exotic imported coffees and teas, and a reputation for some of the finest baked goods in the city (all supplied by the neighboring bakery, which is run by the sister of the cafe's owner). A stage is set up for open-mic nights and poetry slams held 5 days a week, Tueday and Sunday being the only off days.
The second floor contains a small bookstore filled with hard to find books, used and new, as well as a small gallery for local artists and photographers to show off their work.
The clientelle run the gamut from Goths, to metalheads, to students, to punks, to hippies, to street preachers, to stoners, to beatniks, to art buffs, and everything in between. The owner is a raccoon girl named Sandy Biggs (see below picture). If anyone is interested in playing her, the character is open, as is her sister Melissa (no picture at the moment).

Anyone wanting to participate must first post a character (picture optional, but preferred) and get a consensus from everyone else. If possible, try to work out a plot between you and another participant via PM. You're also free to invite others to join. Just so long as no one is left out in the cold. Multiple characters are permitted if you think you can manage.
The two characters I will be playing are the Ritari brothers, described below.
Name: Jari Ritari
Race: Wolf
Age: 21
Orientation: Straight
Appearance: Jari is 6' tall with a solid black pelt and yellow eyes. He's lean and tough-looking with an intense stare, even for a wolf. He dyes red tribal patterns into his fur, and wears all black to match his pelt. To compensate for the hot California summers (in comparison to other places he's lived in the past), he usually wears something with decent ventilation, often going around in his trench coat with no shirt underneath. Since the local laws regarding furries and clothing are rather lax, this is nothing unusual. He has a velvety bass voice, but is usually soft-spoken and a man of few words.

Description: The older of the Ritari brothers by about 4 minutes, Jari and his brother Niko are Finnish-American wolves. Fluent in both English and Suomi, they both have a mild accent, though Jari's is more noticeable. When first hearing him speak, many people mistake him for being Russian. He got into martial arts and photography at a very young age, and both have become a lifelong interest of his. He currently possesses a black belt in Jeet Kune Do and Shaolin Kung-Fu, and has had some of his digital work displayed at The Fire Circle before. His specialty is in cityscapes and using digital image altering to create gritty, edgy urban fantasy worlds.
Jari also provides vocals and sometimes bass guitar when he and his brother perform at the Circle's open-mic nights. Though they share common ground on a love of heavy metal, Jari is more into Goth rock, being influenced by bands such as Type O Negative, Bauhaus, The 69 Eyes, and After Forever. This results in a number of interesting original tunes and covers that the two have performed.
Jari is quiet and an archetypal straight man. He's very organized and analytical, feeling uncomfortable in situations where he has little or no opportunity to plan ahead or back up and assess the goings-on. Though generally friendly and peaceful, his demeanor often comes across intimidating to those who haven't met him before. Sadly, he's unaware of this fact, and secretly wonders why more people don't just talk to him.
Name: Niko Ritari
Race: Wolf
Age: 21
Orientation: Straight
Appearance: It's hard to tell that Jari and Niko are brothers, nevermind twins. Niko is grey-furred with white patches and a mop of overgrown black hair on the top of his head. A playful grin is always plastered to his muzzle, and his eyes are perpetually shining with mirth and energy. He typically dresses in loose-fitting clothes and has a penchant for urban camo. His style of dress is partly because it's more ideal for his favorite sport: Parkour. His Traceur name is Loki, and he's become something of a local figure in Hilltop due to his dangerous Parkour jams across the district. He's boisterous, loud, verbose, and almost always moving.

Description: The younger of the Ritari brothers, Niko seems to be the opposite of Jari. Though both are very creative and athletic individuals, the similarities end there. Niko is outgoing and bold, always looking to expand his social circle. He loves the ambience of The Fire Circle as well as the diversity of the clientelle, and has acquired a reputation as something of a flirt.
Niko has two great passions in life: Parkour and music. Parkour is a great avenue of freedom and personal expression for him, and has given him a sense of self-empowerment that is channeled in his characteristic manner of cocky bravado. He goes on jams three times a week, and is always looking for new routes and challenges, which has resulted in multiple contusions, two broken bones, and five hospital visits in the last few years. Despite these hazards, he seems content to continue on his way, and wears his scars with pride.
In regards to music, he's an accomplished guitarist on both acoustic and electric guitar. He has a fondness for heavy metal and Scandinavian folk music, and consequently his own original material features a lot of complex melodies and chanted choruses. Whenever he and Jari perform their own music at open-mic nights, it's usually acoustic material to which Jari wrote the lyrics and Niko wrote the music. He's entertained the notion of getting a band together, but for time being seems to be content right where he is. Whatever ambitions he has he usually doesn't speak much about them.
Backstory: The Ritari brothers were born in Helsinki, Finland in the dead of winter and both soon kept their parents busy with their endless energy and early aptitude for music. When the brothers were 10 years old, the family moved to Maine where they lived for 6 years before being uprooted once more when the father of the family, Jyrki, accepted a job as a museum curator in San Francisco.
At this point, both boys were showing a great artistic sense and seemed to accept that the arts would end up being their lives. While Jari became more and more obsessed with the dark side of the art world, Niko instead became more and more entranced with the Romantic warrior philosophy. By the time they graduated high school, it was difficult to tell that they were twin brothers at all.
After graduation, the boys moved out of home and down the coast to San Domino to attend the local college for the arts. It was here that Jari discovered his niche in digital photography and Niko found a greater social circle than he had ever imagined. They plan to stay in San Domino for a long time to come, and are now regulars over at The Fire Circle.
