OOC:The City Time Forgot
I had an idea for a thread which may or may not turn out to be interesting, only time will tell. Anyone is welcome to join in.
The setting is all mythical, not really anyplace at all. The city of Bah`Lin was hidden deep in the forests by the gods of its people nearly a millenia ago as protection from invading forces who were quickly taking control of the surrounding areas.
Since that time, it has very little contact with the outside world and only those who have been raised and groomed to venture beyond the city are allowed to (or even have a desire to) leave its protective boundaries, and they do so only once a year to travel to nearby cities and villages to trade for those things which are the citizens of Bah'Lin can't produce for themselves. The luck of it is, that the city is blessed with and unending wealth of gold and jewels. They are of course smart enough not to arouse suspicions by trading too much in any one place.
Meanwhile, time has sort of passed the people of Bah'Lin by. They still belive in and worship their gods and actually the gods still at times walk among the people of the city. (Perhaps this was the real reason why they hid the city to begin with. Since without worshippers, gods lose their power) They live a simple life, but are for the most part a trouble free city. Very little if any crime and disease at all. It's almost like a paradise.
My character, Ariana k'Lar is the sort of the ruler of the people, though there is also a council that sees to the day to day workings of the government, as well as their go-between with the gods (whom they call the Ancients). She's young, but well trained for the duties she assumed after the accidental death of her father nto quite a year before.
The beginning of the story takes place as the yearly trading party, led by Ariana's Cousin and dearest friend, is returning. Unbeknownest to the city, they've brought along with them two men from the outside who have (by accident?) stumbled across the cities boundaries as the traders were returning. Little do they know (except of course for the gods and goddesses) that the coming of these two men will forever alter the city and the people, perhaps even destroy.
The thread will need someone to take the characters of Ariana's cousin, the two outsiders, and other various people of the city as well as one or two of the gods or goddesses if you like. The gods and goddesses are more like those of old mythology, not quite all powerful nor are they perfect.
Char Name: Ariana k'Lar
Age: 19
Height/Weight: 5'6" 110 lbs
Description: Darkbrown hair and eyes, well tanned skin. She also bears the symbolic birthmark on the inside of her left wrist (the rising phoenix) that designates her the chosen by the gods to be a ruler over the people.
MiniBackground: Ariana has only recently come to terms with the death of her father, it's not usual that people should die as young as he in Bah'Lin. Because of that, there was much talk afterwards speculating as to whether or not he had perhaps done something to displease the gods. She bears much responsability for a woman of her age and therefore spends little of her time in pursuit of fun as most people her age might. Her position also sets her apart from others her age and most ages, leaving her probably one of the lonliest people in the city of Bah'Lin.
Anyways, that's the basics of the story. If anyone's interested in joining, let me know
